I bought an f430 recently and have found a few issues

    The rims are scud 19inch
    The rears 10 inch
The front came in 8inch and 7.5 inch

Ive checked mine and for some reason i have one 7.5 inch and one 8inch width on the front

Further to this it has 235 tires, not 225 which results in larger dia front which makes the f1 pump cycle more often and e diff lockup more at certain speeds

Also 235 are not permitted on 7.5 inch rim as its over stretched

The ferrari dealer did 190 pt inspection

Ive voiced my concerns to ferrari dealer and they have told me:

Upto 10% difference in dia front and rear is ok

They didnt know the front had different rims and are not responsible

Its ok to fit 235 tires to f430 even though thats not factory fitment

Further to this a rear rim has a flat spot and crack and has began to leak air

My suggestion was that perhaps the previous owner hit something and rear rim had a crack but held air and the front they replaced with different width not knowing 2 types were available?

    Thoughts please

I think Dealer should cover this, at least split the cost, and going forward change to a 191 point inspection. Wheel damage is probably not uncommon on these cars.

That's very possible. I can see that happening. I can also understand why these items wouldn't be discovered in an inspection. The rear wheel should be replaced, and you can sell one of your 7.5" front wheels (good shape, I assume) and replace it with another 8" to match the widths. The 235 tires shouldn't be an issue.

Yeah, that's definitely a weird one. If you got it from an official Ferrari dealer - they should be more amenable to finding a solution. If it's a 3rd party, your results may vary.

I would do as somebody else here proposed, at the very least split the difference for the cost of a new rim.

    Good Luck!

Tyres specs are debatable but two front wheels of different widths is unacceptable - a professional dealer should have a hard time defending that in any civilized country.

Did you buy the car from the dealer or they just inspected it from a private party transaction?

Was it an official Ferrari dealer, a specialist of good repute, or just a random car dealer? Your success in recourse may vary depending on which. I would be pretty annoyed and do whatever I could to get the dealer to take responsibility, not acceptable. But the dealer may not care.

The reason it cost $12k is:

The crack in the rim i found first as it had a leak

They cant be bought new but i tracked one down cost $2.5k

Then a week later i found the 2 rims different widths
The scur rims are available in 3 colors and 2 front sizes. Again not made anymore so 2nd hand is only option

Could only find one set in the uk and wrecker would not split
So had to buy a full set
Due to timing if id known all of this i wouldnt have bought the rear one by itself!

Then add the cost of front tires, refinishing 3 wheels as scratched
    Im at $12k au

    Hence my irritation

I was ok with paying $2.5k for one rim, then when i found the front mis matched and had no choice to get a set then i got pretty upset lol

Just an unfortunate situation of events

The dealer offered $500 as they said even though they inspected the wheels and tires they wouldnt have checked that
I argued if you dont check the rims for cracks, correct tire size, correct rim width (knowing scud rims came in 2 sizes), then what exactly did they check under wheels/tires????

If anyone needs a mint front 7.5inch scud rim i have one for sale, trying to re coup some of my costs

I doubt anyone else has had such a unique situation

I was interested in everyones opinion just to make sure im not being unreasonable???

What is the legal road worthy requirement in your country?

In the uk that wouldn’t get through the annual test and hence would be counted as unroadworthy; hence the dealer would have sold an unroadworthy car, which is legal but not if he advertised it as roadworthy and you would have grounds to reject the car, make them fix it or something else...hopefully you can see where I’m headed here?

Here in Europe it is not legal to have different tyres in different sizes on one axle. The dealer is full of it. And 10%? Ridiculous.

That setup is dangerous. You can most likely get the rear wheel repaired, so look into that. Then get the proper 8" front that fits the 235 shoe.

Nobody likes to burn money needlessly, but this is a relatively new Ferrari, not an old beater. Get it sorted right, because there is no point of having such a car and not having a crucial item like wheels wrong. That simply makes no sense. How on earth have that wheel situation cost you 12 grand anyhow? You could get a new set of carbon series forgeline wheels for that.

Go to Eurospares and see what is for sale. They often have used wheels.

Just an FYI. The F1 pump running longer then it should has absoulty zero relation to the wheel and tires sizes being incorrect. I would have the car hooked up to a scan tool and monitoring the hydraulic pressure.

Cracked wheel IMO the dealer should cover 100%, but with them tracking down a replacement or properly fixing the current one.
The front one mismatching is just bizarre. I can see never thinking to check that, but again I would expect them to track down a replacement.
I would not expect the dealer to pay for whole sets of wheels I found on my own. If I couldn't find exact replacements that match, I would probably just switch to an aftermarket set I like so I know they're still in production and replaceable.
On the bright side, eventually somebody will need the good wheels you now have left over and you can recoup some of what you spent while helping somebody else get out of a sticky situation! (At least that's what I tell myself about the stacks of wheels and parts I have lying around :)

I have used 235s on the front 7.5 wheels for years. I've even tracked it. No problems. The car understeers more than I like with 225s.

It's a used car, it said as is with no implied warranty right on the window sticker and paperwork. The situation sucks but that's the risk of buying used. Maybe get a second opinion on the next one and don't sign anything until YOU are 100% sure, not the dealer, they'll tell you anything.

If it’s not a Scud, and not advertised with Original Ferrari Scud wheels, I’m on the “move on” train. It’s an awesome car, the sooner you get past this and start truly enjoying it, the better.

    Enjoy it!!
