So I've been eager to crack this bottle open for quite some time as I've heard great things about it, and today is the day. It is an experimental series where they blend different straight bourbons to create a release, this being their third one from last year. Here's some info on it: https://www.thewhiskeyshelf.com/bardstown-bourbon-company-discovery-series-3-review/ MSRP was $130ish which is already high, but you'd be hard pressed to find one for that price, if one at all. The Series 4 is now available and trades at around $200ish. My take is that it's a fantastic bourbon fully worth its price even with a markup. I gage how much I like a bottle like this by how long it takes me between first taste and googling for a replacement ... if it's less than a minute it's worth the price of admission. Apparently it's international whisk(e)y day. Any excuse works!! Image Unavailable, Please Login You may have Eagle Rare but did you get it at Sazerac House?
And for those collectors. Here’s most of my bourbon collection. I have a pretty special Blantons collection for this part of the world. UK and Japanese Blantons. Handwritten, individually numbered. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I wish .....Anyhow , I'm back at Costco Gypsum Co. This on display plus many other bottles over 5-10k. Guess neighboring Aspen , Veil helps them out to sell such high end stuff .. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Commander called earlier excited he found a local spot that had some harder to find stuff (especially for Maryland) in stock. Pricing wasn't MSRP but also wasn't even close to the "open secondary" so I grabbed this lil feller finally. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Picked up a couple of good ones today. If the Discovery Series 4 is half as good as the 3 I will be thrilled. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Shopping today, picked up a nice tequila and a couple decent bourbons. Had Legent a long while ago and liked it so trying it again. Also got a huge bottle of Knob Creek. Should have waited for a Costco run to DC, but I was there so got it. It’s kind of overwhelming with the number of bourbons out there. Image Unavailable, Please Login
My TX connection located another EHT for me, as well as a Woodford Master's Collection 2021 Batch Proof under MSRP. That, coupled with the excellent news that EDC is happening in May, made for a great week going into a **** weekend.
ah no worries. they happen from time to time. "Don't have to like it....just have to get through it." The Colonel Albert helped me get thru it, now we're enjoying wine on the deck and considering ihop via doordash.
Yard work today... I went and grabbed a pizza from a local spot. Enjoyed some quality chiminea time with Knob Creek and now ready to dig in.
Some nice things came in the last couple of days. First I ran into a bottle of Old Soul 13. Never heard of it, but for some reason the name appealed to me. Tried it today and it is delicious ... I highly recommend it if you happen to run into a bottle. Second is a bottle (1 of 3000) of recently released LS&B 20yr rye. As some of you probably know, rye is super difficult to age that long, there's actually very few ryes that have ever been made that are 20yrs or older. Part of the reason is that after a while it will absorb too much oak flavor from the barrel (unless aged in a very cold environment to slow down absorption, which this one is), the other reason is that if not perfectly distilled, it will often result in an ethanol type taste profile which you obviously don't want and that only intensifies with aging. I haven't opened it yet but I'm eager to see how this one turned out. Image Unavailable, Please Login
No pics... Knob Creek by the chiminea yesterday, it was a nice cool day with a beautiful sunset. Good to be outside listening to birds and nature.
Mail call today. Technically not whisk(e)y, but very closely related. Image Unavailable, Please Login
