So in other words like me you are NOT a fan of most Tilke designed tracks such as Abu Dhabi and Sochi, good:)

I can only imagine how spectacular the views of this race will be given the surroundings. Absolutely incredible.

Oh, and one more nice benefit for people attending the race: They won't get stuck in traffic driving to the race track. :)

That's a shockingly bad track design. The entire thing seems to be build on high speed, flowing corners. I.e. Impossible to stick close to another car to try and make a move on the ONE overtake spot they have.

Oh and of course it's all surrounded by barriers. Lol.

    Atrocious.

Forget the Mugello or Portimao, this is the new benchmark.

As for the Electric move...at least for now the powers that be are against it....luckily. I think they know that the moment they go full E the sport, and it's fanbase, dies.

Well a bit difficult not to get into P&R on this subject ..so I would just say looked forward to flights out of there on duty for a few days, but not exactly thrilled when coming back to the compound in between.;)

No surprise. I have made reservations but currently US Americans are not allowed to travel to Canada. I've been to that race many times and a LOT of the spectators are from the US. So if they keep the pandemic rules in place, grandstands will be half empty, so makes sense to cancel it. Too bad since they recently redid the entire pitlane and IIRC only had one race on it.

Come to think of it: What are the pandemic travel rules for Monaco?

Since they bothered to put up the grandstands I would assume France allows travelers into their country (I know Monaco is its own country but in reality you can't really get there unless you go through France)? Do they as Europeans allow US Americans? Our FChat member Ira might have a hard time, no?

France is having a bit of a 'third wave' and are seriously lagging on vaccinations.
I wouldn't be too sure of getting in.
As far as I know, at the moment Europeans are not allowed into the US and vice versa.
So things are getting better but it will take time.
Hopefully some type of covid certification (vaccine passport) will enable travel by summer.

At the moment, you are not allowed to travel much INSIDE France !
The latest allows you to move
    - Only 10 km from your place for shopping.
    - Up to 30km from your place for medical treatment if absolutely necessary.
Apparently not allowed to cross department limits (like counties).
These restrictions could be lifted by the end of May, if "everything is alright".

That changes all the time, and it's difficult to keep up with regulations.

Unless you go to Monaco by boat, these rules will apply to anyone attending the Monaco GP this year.

Thanks for the details. That reduces the amount of visitors basically down to the people living in Nice and a few lucky ones on a yacht.

Tilke gets a bashing on here for bad tracks like the ones you mention. But people forget, that a) he has to operate within the parameters of a site (was likely difficult and little freedom at Abu Dhabi and Sochi), b) he is given standard radius terms for turns by the FIA for safety reasons and c) he has done some spectacular tracks such as Turkey or COTA.

Of course the old original tracks like Spa or Imola are people's favorites. But they were built under very different circumstances. It's not Tilke's fault that times and regulations changed. I'm sure he is not an idiot (besides it is a whole team of people, not just one man) but rather trying to make the best out of a sometimes tricky situation.

That said, Shanghai is IMHO the worst of them all. Bahrain isn't much better. And there are few excuses for these atrocities as those sites are wide open spaces and pretty much anything could have been built there.

But I understand GPs can be held without public.

The restrictions may be lifted by the time the Monaco GP takes place.

    We must live in hope.

Practically no one respects these restrictions . The French are tired of these restrictions . Controls are non-existent. Nothing to do with first lock down.
