Yep, on the last lap too. Stroll did nothing in this race but retain his qualifying P10 position.

Stroll did'nt race to gain an advantage.

He passed Alonso and fought with other cars. Just because he ends up on the position he started on doesn't mean he wasn't fighting. At times he was holding P7 (within folks on the same tire rotation schedule).

It wasn't so long ago that people on here said Seb would wipe the floor with Lance. Well, how did that turn out?

Stroll has some tough opponents ahead of him to get passed.....or others will.pass Stroll.

I'm still reserved on Seb for 2021 in a new car and team. I'll admit he had a crappy race at Sakhir2021. I'll wait mid-season if Seb's antics keep occurring like at Ferrari.

Racing vs driving. Lance is a driver so far in this career of F1.

Stroll is fast but not agressive.

He can qualify well, but he is shy of attacking or defending his position during the race.

+1 - weak on brakes per Brundle and others. In a different team with Perez still beating him, and not owned by family of Lance, its Lance who is released.

We know that, but it's a father's normal reaction to protect his son.

The question is for how long can this situation continue. If Stroll's teammate cannot challenge him (sad if Vettel is in that camp),
then the team will stall and will be overtaken by McLaren, Ferrari, Alfa Tauri. Those are not AM aspirations.
Oh Wait, what I described already happened during the race...

On the other hand, if the team chooses a competitive driver and puts Stroll in his place, then at some point things will boil over.
Will he be removed? How long is the leach, two more seasons, three?

Agreed on that. Prior to 2020 I would classify him as not particularly fast either. That changed last year.

Stroll is creeping up on being acceptably fast, but he is not yet actually fast.

That's because being in the family team, he is allowed to grow, learn, get experience and become faster.

If he was in the meat grinder at Alpha Tauri, Hemut Marko would have him out in no time.

How many careers were destroyed in the Red Bull Academy? They always want a quick return on their investment.

If I look back in F1 history, we always had that type of drivers.
Many drivers of average skill were in F1 for many years.
In fact, it was often half of the field.
But now, F1 followers get frantic and want their scalp !

Daddy took.his son out of F3 and bought an $80 million seat at William's. Could Daddy have left his son in F3 then jump to F2 to build his race-craft??? I would infatically say with out doubt YES.

I'll agree Lance is in the family business and therefore is allowed to "grow"...however long that takes BUT Dad got rid of Ocon during the administration in 2018(whom at the time was better than Stroll) and Dad got rid of Perez in AMF1 whom is also a better driver than Stroll. Is Dad going to get rid of his son??? Absolutely not regardless of how Lance stacks up to other drivers since at this point Dad doesn't really care about POINTS at the end if the year which translates to $$$$$$$$$$.

Daddy will invest BILLIONS for his son to make his son LOOK great in F1 but most of us know here on FChat how Lance really is behind the wheel. Does Dad care what most think about his son?? Nope. Which from a father stand-point a father can relate with but I personally would not have done in the beginning what Lawrence did to his son.

    @william

With regards to RedBulls meat grinder approach:

You have the Lawrence Stroll approach which takes time.

You have the RedBull approach which doesn't take time.

You have the Ferrari approach which blames the driver instead of their car.

You have the Mercedes approach which builds the best car and gets the best driver.

I do find it genuinely amazing how you manage to get your hatred for Red Bull across even in a thread about Stroll, who has absolutely nothing to do with ''Evil Corp''.

I can sense some irritation in your post, but you answer your own questions.
That's Lawrence Stroll's team, and he can do what he wants with it without outside influence.

I am glad we have these wealthy enthusiasts coming to rescue F1 teams.

Actually I would have given Seb the benefit of the doubt for his severe quali mistake. Might have been the team that led him down there. But there is zero excuse for his lack of race pace and especially for his dumb accident. That was a rookie mistake and not worthy of a 4 times WDC. For these reasons I think Ferrari was right to have sacked him last year and he'll continue to be just as bad at Aston Martin this year.

PS: Regarding the new team and car: The same can be said for Lance. He never raced for Aston Martin. :p

What a weekend. Not gelling with the mediums in Q2 meant he went from Q1 P2 to starting 13th, and he lost two positions off the line to wheelspin. Was then caught out braking behind Ocon and damaged his tyres on lap one, but later put in a series of passes to rise majestically into the points. Mugging Stroll on the last lap nets him an extra point.

Did well reaching Q3 but benefited from Perez and Tsunoda struggling on the mediums. Made a good start, wasn’t to blame for the early collision with Sainz, and got stuck into plenty of fights thereafter. Enjoyed twice passing Alonso, but a lack of pace on a long final stint on the hards meant he slipped back late on. Surely should have stopped Tsunoda’s last lap assault.
