I wrote to them about a month ago, never had a reply. Is the club worth joining? I live in South Staffs, and have been thinking about a Ferrari for years. Getting to know some owners would be helpful.

    Thanks
    Dom

    Hi Dom,

If you are thinking of buying a Ferrari it’s worthwhile. Whilst the club itself is not the most dynamic, there are regional groups that hold local events and will have a wealth of information/ knowledge.

If I’m correct, if you don’t yet own a Ferrari you can join the Prancing Horse Register.

Also worth finding the local cars and coffee events in your area.

Also join clubscuderia.co.uk. Good local UK knowledge on there that will add to the vast pool here.

Are you thinking of something specific yet or just starting your search?

Thanks, I am a long time Ferrari enthusiast, and never quite had enough money to buy a car. Whenever I had enough, the prices seemed to double.
I am looking around now, want to learn more about the market, who can service the car and be fair, and what I should buy.

I drove both a 355 and a 458 11 years ago from Maranello to Serramazzoni and back. Both great.

I'm a real fan of older front engined V12s, but priced out of my price range and comfort zone.

I first fell in love with Ferraris at the 1966 Chicago Auto Show (1965 275 LM was on display), then visited Maranello June 1966, 10 days after Le Mans (dad bought a fiat 1500 in Sassuolo Italy), and Fiat dealer got us into the factory. Saw a black 500 Super America, never found out where the car is now. Was said to be going to Saudi Arabia (same colours as the catalogue car).

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

    I'm south of Wolverhampton.

    Best
    Dom

If you don't know what car floats your boat yet or that you can afford how can anyone help ?

Focus a bit and read the model areas already here and then ask sensible questions - look also at Pistonheads to get an idea of the local market

How long is a piece of string ?

I've used Keys at Silverstone for my 308 gt4 and would recommend them.

A lot is going to depend on your budget both for buying and for maintenance. If you buy a 'cheaper' older car you will most likely end up spending the difference on maintenance, although there are no guarantees even with more 'expensive' cars.

More interested in who in the service business is trustworthy. I've owned a 1969 911E for the last 45 years, found a number of "cowboys" and some really good people.
I've already heard of a few less than reputable "experts" places in my greater area, and one good one.

I'm not worried about a model just yet. I liked the 355, 308. and 328s. I want to keep the car not so technically advanced.

Thanks and agreed. For example I saw a BBi for sale, spoke to someone about maintenance, and this chap noted a GBP 2000 belt change every 3 years. I've seen a recommended by a long time friend a place not so far from me that would do it for less than half.

Hence my questions. I'm also not a fan of belt engines, but the cars I can afford are mostly belt driven.

There are a number of service places in and around you. I can dig them out later, but I’d guess in the region of 6 plus so no worries there.

But it depends on what model you get as some lean/ specialise on particular ones.

As to which car you want...when allowed you are just going to have to get out and figure out what floats your boat.

    Hi Dom
It would be worth joining the Prancing Horse Register within the Ferrari Owners Club and then you could go to events like this one. This is also open to non members with Ferraris by the way if anyone is interested.

Good luck with the search. Grant

Jonathan. You may have guessed already but the list of exhibitors is unchanged on the website since the (non) event of last year. Hublot are also listed and I suspect they will not be there either.

Thanks Robert. Indeed I did guess that and my comment was tongue-in-cheek. It just seemed a bit silly that someone has taken the trouble to create a website for this event but then hasn't kept it up-to-date. I might add that it doesn't tell you very much about the event or give much in the way of reason to attend right now.
