    I use a similar rack for my bikes. Seasuckers are great
    Never tried it on my 308.

    I was just gonna post that. I know it was so low I was always worried about someone changing lanes into me on the freeway. So I generally sped up and passed 'em. ;)

    To be honest I've had this idea for about a year or two of driving my 308 to Alaska and back. The Alcan Highway thing is something that's been on my que plate for a long time and nowadays it's all paved so it wouldn't be THAT crazy other than putting about 7,000 miles on the odometer and risking the dreaded rock strike to the windshield. I guess leaving it parked overnight at a motel lot in whoknowswhere might also be a risk, I suppose with the gear we can get now it would be possible to camp.

    Hmmmm....
