Thanks. It's a privilege to participate with so many knowledgable folks. I learn something every time I'm active on this forum because of so many of you that have so many experiences and experience. I think that all I do is to bring up a lot of "been there done that" things that ol' folks like to do. I enjoy it and it keeps me going. Not very often that an old goat like me can be actively engaged with folks who go along with his jabbering, it keeps oil pressure up and everything else in the green.

I have to add why this forum is so unique. There are members who have served in active overseas flying in harm's way, those who have accomplished strenuous and demanding challenges to become airline pilots, those who have succeeded in becoming trusted IFR rated general aviation pilots, those who have become trusted private and commercial pilots, those who have graduated from engineering schools and universities to become the creators of the very thing that has captured our being, and not to be underrated , those who are technically engaged or interested in learning about this vast world of aviation. I have been a pilot, sailor, hunter, climbed on Mt. Rainier, and messed around with auto stuff but nothing can beat the unique depth of character of the aviation bunch. Look at the books, the personal stories, the jokes, and the never -ending colorful incidents and anecdotes that even came from those who suffered the stress of heavy enemy action.
Curious. Is refueling ever done in a banking turn? Would think it would be done at straight, flat and level flight only. .
Refueling is done during a turn on most refuelings. The tanker is usually in a racetrack circuit in the tanker track so turns at both ends. No big deal since you are just flying formation on the tanker, regardless of bank angle, and the boomer does the hard part.
The photos of the KC-97 and 377 bring back a lot of memories. I began my career at Boeing in 1950 working on B-50's as a mechanic and then eventually on the new version of the KC-97, the KC-97G as a Production Illustrator , on which I did many installation drawings of the wiring and tubing. Then came the KC-135, both of which had a boomer's pod and the flyable Boeing boom. I can't believe how much work was accomplished when I illustrated the entire wing structure, the struts, and engine installation. Exciting and rewarding days but I sure as heck couldn't survive the work load now.

I didn't notice that till you mentioned it. Pics were from a training mission this month over the Pacific, with Hawaii Raptors vs. Alaska F-16s as the bad guys. The base pictured is Marine Corp Air Station Iwakuni, Japan.
