Is the glovebox supposed to open automatically when you push the button? Mine unlatches but has to be pulled down by hand.

Mine is the same way....you had to pound on the dash with your fist to get it to drop open. Solution: cut a piece ribbon from your family bible and tie it inside the glovebox leaving the end hanging just out enough to grab hold of it. Wish I had thought of this before fingernail marks marred the leather lol.

I have an ‘86 also. I press the button to unlatch it, then physically pull open the door.

Is it supposed to pop open when pressing the button?

I adjusted my car's glove box to do this. When I hit the button it opens all the way, on its own.

Can you post a picture of your glove box assembly? There are differences.

one of the main reason the glove box will not open is by design. The metal bracket is actually sort of a lazy L shape and it rest on a cam lobe which you cannot see in the photo. I put a lot of pressure on the glove box hinge and keeps it from opening. I am guess its purpose is to keep the glove box from rattling. When I had my glove box apart, I opened up the L shape of the bracket slightly and reduced the pressure. Now my glove box pops open when I push the button. Note: there are brackets on both side of the glove box. Don't remove the brackets unless you want to get into a whole lot of fiddley time to put them back.

Fortunately your job will be easier than most.

You just need to focus on the brackets Ezored pictured. I adjusted mine, out of the car, while replacing the light switch. I opened them up (1/8" more in my case). I lightly greased the hinge pins and the inside of the cam brackets too.

Wipe all the leather down with a good leather cleaner, which helps as a lubicant. The spring loaded mirror is what actually causes the door to pop open.. Jeff is correct about opening up the brackets. you might be able to reach in and get ahold of the bottom end of the bracket an pull it down with a loop of wire. Would be a trial and error kind of thing.

    Here is the parts diagram.
https://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/Diagram/Ferrari/512-TR/118-Dashboard Its part 17. Also you can see the part # for the lense 61647200

Redbay ferrari parts has a used one for $15, but shipping can be expensize. Would be a good time to get several small parts that you need to make your car perfect. Extra fuses etc:
