    Hi guys.

I'm in trouble. Both of the bonnet struts of my '81 400i have to be replaced, so I tried to buy some from the company Erwin mentioned in this thread.
    http://erwin400.blogspot.com/2015/06/bonnet-struts-replacement.html

Unfortunately due to the BREXIT they don't ship to the EU any more (at least for the time beeing).

So my question goes to all UK residents:
Can you please buy them for me and send them to Austria?
Of course I will send the money in advance - paypal or bank transfer.

    Thank you all
    Andreas

Yes, that's the one. Thanks for the DHLit link, but that's only the last option for me.

    Hi Andreas,
Through my business here in the UK I send goods to the EU everyday. For small items like this, a DHL delivery will be easy and take just a few days.
I fitted new struts to my 1980 400i last year and sourced them through the Ferrari specialist, Emblem Sports Cars of Poole, who are local to me. I’ll ask how much they are and come back to you in due course.
    Ewan.

Sorry - just read this thread with better concentration! So you want the ones from SGS. No problem, I’ll call them (and DHL) tomorrow.
Can you send me the address you want them delivered to?

    Thanks Ewan,
I wanted the SGS parts, because Erwin said that they were ok.
If you have another suggestion, please tell me, because I'm always interested in finding an alternate solution to my problem (i.e.: can the original struts be rebuild?)
    I'll send you a pm. :)

    Good day Rueben,

If you do not find what you want, you can send your struts to LS Technologies here in Canada (https://lstechnologies.ca/) and they can recharge your originals providing the internals are still OK. If the originals are internally knackered, LS can fabricate a set that work perfectly and look OEM. The only issue with a replacement is that they would not have the silkscreened details. I have used LS several times and I actually helped them develop replacements for the Boxers (I provided test info and feedback on various pressures, etc). My last experience with them (6 years ago) were my struts for my 365 GT4 2+2 and again the results, quality, etc were second to none and the price was very reasonable (about $50 US each at the time).

As for longevity... I replaced all four of my Boxer Struts in 2006... so 15 years now... and they still work perfectly. I mention this, as I have seen past posts where others bought struts from Amazon or other vendors only to have them fail after a year or two. My 365 struts are now 6 years old and they also work as when I first installed them.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Thanks for all those hints, but I don't see how all those shipping services are going to help me, because it was the company (SGS) who told me, they are not shipping to Europe.
so the problem is not buying the parts, but shipping them to Austria. :(

@roger21: Am I dreaming ..... 14€ for one strut??????

They do not want to ship because shipping from the UK is now a mess (I've got a tube of Hylomar stuck in custom for 3 weeks). DHL is perfectly reliable though.

The services I've highlighted are offering "Local Pickup", basically you commission them to pickup the parcel at a given address on a given schedule. All the seller has to do is print the paperwork you've done for him and wait for the postman to show up and collect the parcel. As you are organising shipping, should anything occur, this is your responsibility (no the seller's...).

Although there are no import taxes, the products do have to clear custom which implies 10€ clearing fees plus 17€ handling fees. These costs are acceptable on large orders, but for any order below £100, UK suppliers are not competitive any-more.

At the end of the day Brexit obliges us to find alternate suppliers: I would have never heard about Sangalli Guarnizoni. VerinAuto ("CarStruts" in French) is a nice addition to my list of mainland suppliers....

Thanks Sam! Will be reaching out to them - I really like the idea of keeping my car as stock as possible, so this is a great option!

Thanks Sam, I agree completely with recharging if it is possible.

I once ordered a set from SGS for a 400i series 2, I had to return the struts because they were slightly too long in the compressed position (by a couple of mm), hence the bonnet would not close. With struts from Maranello UK, no problems.

Yes, I had the same problem with the SGS 400 struts that I bought for my 365. They were very helpful though and sent me a pair with slightly changed dimensions and they worked fine.

I too used LS Technologies to rebuild my original struts. Well worth the price and time to ship to them!
