After showing some restraint with my F8 spec, I’m tempted to spec my next car (GTS, if I can make the decision soon) to the moon. I’m strangely attracted to painted shields; anyone know how much they cost? Anyone have the PDF for the complete options list for the GTS? Thanks in advance

The "airbrushed shields" should be around $14K I guess, considering the price in Euros.
A Ferrari dealer should be able to provide you with a full options price list (in France they have Excel files to compute a configuration pricing).

I was very interested in them too. Until I saw them in person. While they are executed with incredible precision and the detail is stunning, they are a good 30-40% larger than standard shields. I went with the std shields for my GTS. I recommend putting eyes on them before ordering if you have the opportunity. Maybe you'll love them, to each his own. GL

Confirming that the price is $14,343 for the 812 GTS.

Also, have seen this on several 812s in person. IMO I think these look fantastic on the 812 because of the proportions of the larger front end. I plan to order these on my 812 VS, and regret that I did not order these on my GTS. Personally I would not order the painted shields on the F8.

I agree, the painted shields would look too big on the F8. The cost sounds about the same as a carbon rear diffuser, and I think the painted shields would be more visually impressive (and less likely to get messed up on a curb!)

Agree as well. I didn’t do them on my F8, Roma or Sf90 Spider but I did do them on the GTS as they fit perfectly as far as proportions and I think match the style of car as well.

I have ordered them for my own GTS. I think the larger size works well on the 812. I also wouldn't spec on F8 - too big. They're a nice touch on the 812.

wow, nice garage! How will you fit the Roma into your driving rotation (or is it for your better half)?

She actually drives the F8 spider every time she can get her hands on it!
The Roma is more to check out the “new stuff”

I keep reading that these are "painted" - as if they are hand painted on the car. Are these not merely decals under the clear coat?

They are indeed hand painted by talented artists... Definitely not decals.

I remember seeing a really amazing video detailing the process of painting the shields. I tried searching for it and I can’t find it. My Google Fu must suck.

They are "airbrushed" (I think with some stencils, whatever the correct word in English is) - it's not like they were hand painted with brushes but far better than a decal...

They look great and suit the 812 very well... it’s almost as if they designed the flanks for the painted shields....

Well, yes, technically they are painted, but as @LVP488 said, it's not that some old-school artisan is laboriously and patiently doing it with a paintbrush.

The following video of a special-liveried 599 HGTE being painted at Carrozzeria Zanasi shows how the painted shields are done:

Aside from the rather high cost of these shields, they do look special (partly because they are rarer compared to the enamel plaques most modern Ferraris are optioned with). In particular, for the 812, the enamel shields look decidedly undersized.

I tend to agree with the “undersized” comment. After seeking out pictures of a few 812s with the painted shields, now when I see pictures of cars with the normal shields they almost look too small.

Airbrushed stencils. Takes talent but not an artist. IMO they do not fit the 812 as the fender style removed the aero-bridge where the F12/TDF would locate them and moved them too far down. Compare the position on the two models and you'll see.
