First things first, toss a charge on the battery and see what happens, I was pleasantly surprised with the giant battery shut off, a clear sign that I have another race car in my stable

I have to re learn how to time the motor, I forget everything unless it’s repetitive, one of the distributors is 180 out, I’ll mess with that maybe this weekend, Mike gave me a run down of his dads old car, it was loved regardless of its condition, engine was rebuilt approximately 6000 miles ago but that was years back, if anyone followed Mike’s saga of letting a local yahoo mess with it, he tossed a bunch of money down a rabbit hole, carbs were professionally rebuilt at least. I’ll try and thread merge some of the cars history and for sale ad here

The ol “I do so know how the hood closes” thing. The bodywork will be endless on this thing, it’s from New York and sat in the grass for years so from 8” down to the frame line is rotted. If anyone knows of quality patch panels I’d love to know about it, also if anyone wants to chime in with the history I’d like to know. I believe mike and his mom bought the car for dad 25 years ago in New York and drove it to Texas

Judging by the cleanliness of the carbs (and some of their mixture screws pointing the wrong direction), looks like your 5-bolt top cover DCNF40-XX carbs have been replaced by (the still available) 4-bolt top cover DCNF40-12 carbs. Still work OK-ish, but IIRC there are some (slightly negative) differences in the air horns, too. Good luck with the resurrection...

Oh man you know it, I could only do 70-75 before it would do a wiggle, flip it around and I didn’t know it was back there at 80

That’s good. But the bottom halves are usually toast. The water drain holes line up perfectly with the door skin fold down below which is not sealed. Not to mention there is no sealant where the skin touches the door frame which is not sealed either.

Yes also the valances on both sides of the exhaust opening and also some inner walls at the drop at the wheel wells in the trunk. And usually behind the front wheel too. Mines all done. And luckily wasn’t very bad. Good luck.

Having just been through the misery of changing out doors I would avoid if possible. You do your own body work which will help but you will find the doors are “fitted” to the body aperture in all planes. The glass frame is fitted to the door. Even the door handle openings were in different positions so the latch rods needed to be modified.

I was dreaming that somehow someone simply moved ignition a notch off, no such luck, going to have to pull valve covers off (siliconed on) yank the distributors, ignition timing has always been a dark art when it comes to dual point or magnetos for me, lots of hand wringing and no comprehension when reading, nothings changed. Guess I know why everyone goes electronic single distributor

Does it still have points in both distributors?
