Can anyone tell me when they transitioned from brown to black ?
Mid-year 1972 has brown. No way to know for sure if they are original (the plug wires don't look like they are), but things like the coils and rubber caps appear to be original.
Again, having had never worked on a single Daytona or ones engine at the "factory" or even when they were (relatively0 new, my (limited) experiences, including recent personal encounters with (and documentation of) three (one '72, two '73) U.S. market, low mileage examples, which all appeared having factory installed caps and plug wires, tends to suggest most caps installed at the factory throughout the entire Daytona production timeline were likely brown. OTOH, being "consumables" it probably doesn't or shouldn't matter for judging, if that's the goal. Heck, even the new, OEM-type replacement spark plug wires are significantly different shade of red and have other detail differences when closely comparing to ones cars (originally ?) came with, ... ... not to mention other "inaccurate"(?) appearance details present on thousands of todays replacement parts and/or restorations performed on most cars.
I think the black caps are for later cars such as the Testarossa etc. Caps are the same for 1/6 bank and 7/12 bank.
