Hey people. After three years I brought my car back to the local dealer (The Collection in Coral Gable FL) for service because they promised it had been revamped and my experience would be great. I’m not feeling that right now. I just received s quote for $25,000 to do repairs. Here they are:

    F1 hydraulic unit parts $10,755
    Labor $1559 + tax
    Start stop button
    Part $3909.50
    - Labor subtotal:
    $359.99

    covertible top left cable
    Part $239.73
    Labor subtotal:
    $1199.95

AM I CRAZY OR IS THIS AN OUTRAGEOUS QUOTE?

I don't know why the cable would have to be replaced on your top. It's very likely something else, like the elastics or a hydraulic ram failure. No doubt they are looking at you like a money machine. After all, it is Coral Gables, home to the wealthy. Someone's got to pay for that exorbitant rent. I guess it's you.

I suggest you take a look at the top yourself. The capote mechanism looks complicated at first, but it's really easy to work on.

I wrote up this article on the elastics: https://www.ferrari360.org/2020/09/capote-elastic-bands-and-more.html

I have a 360 but the 430 top is exactly the same.

They are basing it on all new parts. It seems they do not want to even attempt to repair the existing components that are having issues. They are not a shop it seems. Just parts swapping.

this F1 part? ;)... maybe they misplaced the comma. I have no idea if thats even what you need and its used, but yeah dealers seem to love to write these big number. In general though its not the worst business model...do fewer jobs for quintuple the margin vs many jobs at smaller margins.

It's high, but it's not surprising, to me anyway

That's what it is going through dealers

As an example, I received a quote for $15k for cats, that was based on dealer costs for parts and labor

I ended up putting in $750 test pipes myself, so...there are options

Vivid Racing has a nice carbon fiber steering wheel with a button for $2500

You can generally get new OEM parts from eurospares.co.uk for a fraction of dealer prices

Check salvage sites like exotic auto salvage in CA

I had my car converted from an F1 to stick, if I have the parts you need, I will sell them to you for a VERY reasonable price.

So, agree, find a good independent who can help you out

Not sure if convenient for you: David Feinberg, Sarasota Italian Garage. Excellent service, reasonable rates. Very knowledgeable. Serviced my former F355 and current 360 spider before he moved from NH to sunny Fla!

Did you have a bad experience before and that’s why you haven’t been there in 3 years or did u just stop going
For a dealer to reach out and try to bring back business is suspicious to me let’s like they are charging their approach to customers for a reason
I’m in nyc metro area and Miller motors of Greenwich has always been far with me they never try to pull business from me and are nice if I do use them for service or just buying parts never a hassle there’s has to more to this to quote that kinda of money they think you must like throwing away money

What you listed is only about $18k, where's the other $7k going? The labor doesn't seem too out of line, well I don't know about $1200 to replace a top cable but it may require a lot of disassembly.$4k for a start button seems outrageous!!

Like other mentioned can you buy the parts yourself and use an independent? The former owner of my GranTurismo used this place to at least do the clutch on it....and I had him to the PPI before buying. Nice guy to deal with...Saw this in another thread recommending him also. No idea if he's close to you or not though.

you may want to reach out to him regardless. Knowledgeable guy that knows his stuff and he may have answers for you. Ultimately, you may decide to truck it over. There’s also these guys closer to you: https://www.europeanautomotors.com/

    Best of luck regardless.
