Random question as I become more edjumicated (and apologies if it's covered previously, just point me to where and i'll stfu ;) ), OBD-based emissions testing.....should one obtain a tune from, say, Trev, presumably this will still pass the plug test? No sniffers, just assume non-catted headers and (possibly) a high-flow setup from the glorious aftermarket world.

The tune doesn't just leave them in a constant not-ready state, does it? It corrects for the change and makes it kosher?

Ask the tune maker. Non-ready will fail CA smog.

Here is a question. Are these challenge headers using the same thickness as MKII cats or MKI? I would hope if they were manufactured after 2008 they would use the stronger design and that all Ferrari did was not install the cats during assembly of the headers.

Contact Aldous at AV Engineering for any CELs such as air injection, secondary air, cat efficiency, cat monitors, secondary o2s, readiness, immobilizer delete, gated conversion, evap system removal, etc. They have all the necessary experience and tools to fix this properly.

Many of the "coded out" aftermarket examples are quite scary. They are done completely wrong in a very hacked/botched way, the number of Ferrari's I've had to fix lately with botched mapping is unbelievable and quite sickening if you love the cars as I do.

Many are not doing it in the proper way that Bosch would have done it. For example I've seen some tuners are simply hiding of the ecu light so you don't "see" the CEL, this is absolutely NOT the correct way to do it properly as the ecu software still sees the faults and acts accordingly as if the fault was there because it still is. By not properly deleting the components you can get into a whole heap of engine troubles longer term.

If you just hide faults to remove components like air injection the underlying fault condition still exists which can lead to all kinds of unintended consequences and it can be bad for performance, throttle response and drivability, in the longer term too much fuel being injected for example on startup due to coding out air injection wrongly could lead to bore wash issues!

O2 extenders are very hit and miss, I wouldn't recommend them as they are not a forever solution and can trigger a CEL under all kinds of situations such as cold starts, etc. Getting the software reprogrammed correctly is the only way to remove things properly.

Big one is O2 of course. The other 2 on my challenge headers are capped off as they were on my (euro spec car) old stock 430 headers. Small one I think is for a thermocouple that my car didn't have.

Early F430s still used thermocouples, later specs eliminate them entirely for temperature estimation modelling which is more than sufficient for cat monitoring

Has anyone finally got their challenge headers and installed them?

If yes, was it on a later model 430? I think there are some holes to plug, so what did you do for that?

    Thanks,
    Cheers,
    Corey
