I believe that happens when a car goes onto a personal plate, a hpi on the VIN would reveal such. If it had gone abroad on its old H plate it would show up with a permanent export marker on the dvla system.

Its not gone back to EUR 1 though.

Wow, now THAT is a great idea. Make sure you have it patented asap.
Then sell your idea to Ferrari and make millions. Good luck, fingers crossed..........

TTBOMK there is no confirmation that the repaint of the (now/later) blue car was really done by Zanasi.
And even if it was done by Zanasi, I don't think they would give any details to a complete stranger, a simple tourist or visitor like me.
I have no horse in this race. I am simply amusing myself here and enjoy this thread because there are so many rumours and tons of missing details including a complete car.

Cannonball: I was about 10k north of Stuart Well when the F40 passed us. We were doing about 150km/h and he had a good 100 on us. He also had a Porsche Turbo sitting about 6 inches off his bumper - quite a site. What is rarely mentioned is that there were speed restriction signs for competitors as you entered Stuart Well, 80 then 60. The Porsche complied, the F40 did not. The location of the checkpoint was known to competitors. A crash investigator told me they entered the site at 160 plus. We arrived a complete chaos. The 2 marshals obviously dead. One dead in the F40 and the second had crawled 20 odd metres before succumbing to head injuries. Both in the F40 died from a head clash - not wearing helmets. The general consensus was they would have survived largely unhurt if helmets worn. I had an opportunity to look at the car on impound in Alice the following day and was surprised how intact it was - the chassis looked repairable. As for vin's: it was 1994 and nobody cared. Has anybody tried an FOI request for the accident report or the inquest outcome - one of those may list the VIN.

    Thank you for sharing this.

That is truly amazing and I had never seen this before.

He may be very commercial as this is what he does best. Do I agree with this sort of request. Definitely not!

I still maintain that he is very credible and would never tarnish his name with a stolen car or fraudulent Vin.

    Thank you John,

That must have been a horrible experience and a sad end to an event that could have been extremely enjoyable.

BTW - what were you driving?

FYI “The other chap” is Chris Harris, and he’s not as prominent on social media as he is now the lead presenter on UK Top Gear.
Not sure if your comment was meant to be tongue in cheek.

Pretty anyone can make the request for either report - neither would likely be withheld. Just a matter of paying the fees which used to be about $75 I think. There would be a link on the Northern Territory government web site for freedom of information requests. John

Mate, wasn't competing but knew some who were. We just jumped in one of the work cars with the intention of sitting just south of the checkpoint and watching/listening to the cars work their way up through the gears. In those days cruising at 160k's on unrestricted highways (both of them) was common.

He wasn't referring to Chris Harris who is still on social media. He was referring to the owner of the blue F40.

Presumably the boys at Kaaimans are out promoting the car. Doesn't look like Abdul's inside the car.
