I am looking at a car the dealer bought at auction. I want to know how much they have into it to help gauge my offer. Is there a way to search results with the VIN?

Yes, you need to when and which auction(city) and go to results. I think they only hold the info for 1 year

Seems backwards for the purposes of an auction to set market prices if they don't reveal the prices.

If you make a Mecum account (free) you can see all the sold prices. Note the number shown on sold cars includes the 10% buyers premium.

If you have insurance with Hagerty (I do, so assuming you have to have a login/password), the Hagerty Insider app also has past auction sales information from multiple auctions.

I can't be the only one thinking it - more than most, Mecum auction results are subject to some, errr, creativity.

I suppose if you're trying to make an offer to a dealer that (supposedly) bought the car at Mecum, that's but one tool at your disposal.

Also, if you log in - you can see the prices as well. I believe they add in the seller's fee in the price already.

    Cheers

internet bidder premium is 12 percent but the price shown for the cars reflects “only” 10 percent.

The shown price is sales price with no fees.

I sell many many cars there and all of my cars show the hammer price without commission .

Actually I should double check because it's been a while.

I just checked one and it was the hammer price only.

It will have to state it at the bottom if it includes buyers premium

I promise - am looking at the car I just bought. Mecum is showing my winning bid plus 10 percent on the website as the "sold for" price. My bill of sale reflects my bid plus 12 percent. I was an internet bidder, so I paid 12 percent and not the 10 that buyers pay if they are physically there.
