Now I've got to go out and find a 1:43 diecast model of that Vauxhall concept car to go with my Art Deco collection.

Looks like the Czechs used that Vauxhall (sans fins) as an inspiration for the Tatra.

It looks like someone forced an Aston Martin V8 Vantage Convertible to mate with a Ferrari 599 and the resultant offspring was dropped face-first onto a cattle grate at birth by the clumsy attending veterinarian before being beaten with an ugly stick to induce respiration. o_O Other than that, it's a good effort.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I've never liked the Zagato styling, on any car; holes and swooped lines just for the sake of it.

Well that's a fairly wide sweeping statement -
    So you don't like the pre-war Alfa 1750 6C, Alfa 2300 8C, Aston martin DB4GTZ, Alfa TZ2, Lancia Fulvia and Flamina Sport,etc.?? Harsh -

Some of the later Zagato designs are very strange for sure, but they seem have periods of greatness, mainly in the 1930's and 1960's and mainly for Alfa Romeo. In general Zagato's are different, but many find that interesting as do I.

At what point will the plague of SUVs succumb to thee reality that they are just ugly, pretentious minivans...?

Particularly when the definition between SUV and Cross-Over and hatchback and 5-door and Minivan is becoming increasingly blurred......

Sometimes my morning email contains diecast models that are too hard to overlook the real life example. One such case is the 1953 Alfa-Romeo C52 Disco Volante Coupe. I see a bit of future Jaguar and C2 Corvette in its DNA.

    Enjoy!

The designers at Touring focussed on creating an aerodynamic body. They did not look at the frontal area alone, but also tried to cut the influence of side winds. The result was a very unusual round design with large overhangs on either side of the cockpit and a full under-body In the midst of the 1950s UFO craze the car was quickly nick named 'Disco Volante' or flying saucer. It proved to be a very efficient design, enabling top speeds of 220 km/h {137 mph}, but at these speeds the car suffered from pretty serious lift at both ends.

Still amazed that he pretty much packed his pencils away 50 years ago. In addition to the Vette, he designed some of my favorite cars; the Daytona, the TR250K, the Hino coupe with the ring airfoil, and the P70, and I've never undersood why he stopped.
