Yep, we're all dickheads and you know best.

After all, you've had more 308 spoiler repairs than anyone on here :)

Even when I painted mine I was told $40k.

It's just as much bull **** now as it was then.

It was less than 20k and that was with a few significant repairs which weren't known about until the paint was removed.

They did an excellent job and afaik the paint is still in good condition, despite Moretti!

If you want to overpay for a job that's no better than the less expensive version, go ahead....like doing the sticky switches. Sometimes that makes people feel better about themselves.

I have a decent amount of experience with painting cars and the Labour involved in a top job.

I stripped a 355 down to bare with glass out took it to the painter stripped and refitted all the parts myself it still cost 20k and it was not anywhere near a level I would consider concours or suitable for my own car. Owner was happy though.

Recently took a 512 BB to bare metal and then sent it to a panel shop - 50k and 12 months later and the paint is flawless.

I would not consider painting my car unless I was prepared to spend the amount required for the best job. Your better off leaving it warts and all and enjoying it otherwise.

Skilled body shops generally do the least work possible to get the highest profit, most customers won’t notice the difference and they will paint with the glass in, closed door etc. There is a lot of detail work involved especially for the F355.

All I have painted on my car is the front and rear bumpers, rocker panels to
remove stone chips and the wheels. Doing that was 8k so I can’t see how a full car done to any degree of perfection will come anywhere near 10k. But that was enough for me to make it look good enough and keep it mostly original. Still a concours car as it’s meant to be used and kept as original as possible.

If you do a lot of the Labour yourself with the re/re and find a skilled retired painter maybe you can have an amazing finish for less. But go to any of the big body shops and be prepared to pay up. If you don’t it won’t be worth the undertaking.

The video on your car is amazing, I'm too cheap to ever restore a car like you did but I do keep my car clean and neat , plus do any repairs it needs :)

With all due respect to you and the incredible work you do, I personally don't see the point in spending an inordinate amount to make a car better than it was new just because you can.

Yes I understand that. I’m not the one spending 50k on my cars paint work as I draw the line somewhere. If you have the means and the desire I’m more than willing to perform the work, most people don’t. With my own car the focus was on making it mechanically perfect.

And because I did it myself the cost was not that bad all said and done.

    I didn't say he did.

But it certainly fits into the category of "spending an inordinate amount to make a car better than it was new just because you can."

I struggle with cars that have been over restored or the paint is significantly better then the factory paint when new.

But...each to there own , I'll take patina anytime over bling...each to there own .
