Happy New Year ! Took the kids for rides, the GTB is noticeably lighter, more rigid, faster! Hope to hear back from California DMV this month for 1st ownership history.

I missed this post, sorry timr, what is the serial of your early steel US 308 ?
batch 2 is from 20391 (maybe 20389 but not confirmed with 20383-20385-20387 unidentified market) to 20447 (maybe 20449 which is an unidentified market car) -> almost 30 cars
    batch 3 is from 20573 to 20631 (with 20633-20635 unidentified model) -> 30 cars

308gts79, you are very close to know the first owner!

Some more little questions about your car if I may, I can't wait for your pictures...
    - Do you have the bolt way of fixing the spare wheel with the notched battery cover?
    - Do you have the wash nozzles in a small recess area?
    - Are your tailing light Carello (both orange/white and red)?

    Thank you!

    TripleBlack,
Indeed, thanks for fossifuel provided the information. Here are some photos & not sure of they've answer your questions.
    1) Bolt way / battery cover. The female part is fixed, unlike my 79 GTS, moveable.
    2) windshield wash nozzles are present, pop up light just like my 79 GTS
    3) Yes, both are Carello.

    Thank you!
I have already seen a bolt like yours, I can't find on which car right now but I will do some research. it might be the first kind of bolt (after, there is a black plastic top).
I don't understand when you are talking about a moveable part on a 79GTS, do you have a picture ? It should be the same.

So your washer nozzles are not in a recess area unlike 20189, the car used for the homologation. I suspect they tried to do like the vetroresina car but they changed their mind maybe for the cost.

Door plate show October 76 production?

308gts79 you are the only person I have seen that has the same spare screw, metal on top, not plastic! The knob looks like an oil cap. I can’t find anyone to confirm that this was what the car left the factory with during that time.

Tripleblack we have talked before, my serial number is 20817, date stamped January 1977, delivered to NY.

The nut of the 79 is adjustable, can be moved slightly to accommodate the bolt angle while the 76 is fixed.
Yes, the door plate says Oct 1976.

tim, you answered before I get down to your car.
So we have 2 full metal bolt on US early steel car. Maybe we'll find some more, I am quite sure it is from the factory then.

Exactly, this is the good one but maybe they started with something more "raw". In all cases, it should be located the appearance of the adjustable nut. This must be during 77 because I have 22333 without and 23851 with ....

The metal cap looks suspiciously like an oil filler cap... lol

That is exactly what I thought when I saw yours the first time but you can't be sure anymore, both cars are too close, and it was the real beginning of this kind of attachment.... Only number of examples will confirm it or not...
There is quite a lot of early carbureted cars here, so maybe we'll have some feedback soon.

Nice to know ! I think the metal bolts were prototyping before Ferrari stabilized with the plastic supply chain.

I totally agree with you. There should be a few around, just need to evaluate the quantity.

While we're in the topic of prototyping, I found the antenna switch is joy-stick style rather than the black mouse-ear in later models, I also noticed several samples in early GTBs too. Another prototyping example?

No, the factory has just changed supplier, from June 76 to May 1977, period of assembly of the steel switch.

Sure sounds like my twin brother and his Black/black ‘76 308GTB.

    Very quick and pretty...

Nice car, sure looks like it. IIRC, his name suggested that he may have been of India descent.

Interesting that my 76 doesn’t have the spare wheel bolt at all, in place of the bolt is a leather buckled strap.

The Mickey Ear switches are on/off

The aerial switch differs electrically, it's double throw/center return that reverses polarity on the antenna motor..

Because you have an Euro vetroresina. We were talking about the period when steel US market car had some minor changes with their bolt. :)

Really close to my 1976 308. (20399, November 76 build), also first sold in San Francisco.
