Had finally time to look at this and maintain my opinion that a wb/2650mm version of 250 GTE/330 America was never built. Neither was there ever a purpose for such a car, GTE engine compartment is very long, you can easily fit a 4-litre engine and the new model was going to be all different anyway. Would love to find proof of the opposite, but I'm not holding my breath while waiting for it.

I don't feel very welcome to discuss this subject here, so if people are happy with how things are, I won't bore and confuse you with any new stuff, just wanted to say that I completely disagree with the claim of a wb/2650mm version of 1287GT.

Same to you! Still remember 20 years ago when I found the pieces you had written for the FCA SW region bulletin on their webpage, and felt both lucky and privileged that day. I still love those pieces as they were both entertaining and amazingly accurate.
What comes to 1287 I presume that plates "MO 54083" were only used on three different car: 1287-1903-2257 and after a long break on 1287 again. I cannot find evidence of a 4th car, but 1287 got updated looking like a Series 3 GTE in period of 1961-63 and got finally sold off to France in 1964. It looks like they were originally planning to do the facelift on Series 2 GTE already, but it got delayed by a year for a reason or another.

You forgot the 4th car, the one with the 2650 mm wheelbase.

Received my copy of the book and instantly noticed a problem. The "wb/2650mm car" has a perfectly round rear wheel even if the photo is taken in slight angle. This suggests that the photo is seriously distorted, which is further confirmed by the pillar angles. My estimate is that the photo is about 6% too long. 6% is a lot. If you add 6% to wheelbase of 2600mm you get 2750mm - that's an extra 6", and we are talking about a claimed 2" difference here.

Basically this means we can make that car anything we like, but I maintain that after correcting the proportions by 6%, the pillar angles are correct and the proportions of the body match standard production body with wb/2600mm quite exactly.

Wheelbase has zero to do with a photo or a specific angle of a pic.
Information comes from factory build sheet and factory archive information. Not from any photo.

The goal posts are moving. The book says "careful study of the profile photograph reveals an extra 50mm of body length between the doors and the rear wheels". Have to disagree on that. It also says you were involved when "we tried to unravel the story of the prototypes".

I am not going to ask which build sheet you refer to and how were you able connect an eventual sheet to a specific car, as I already know you are hardly going to answer that or any other question. Something is very wrong here. At this time I do believe that the car sold to France was the original prorotype 1287GT rebuilt and re-engined and given a little time I also believe that I will be able to prove that. First of all it would make no sense, no sense at all, to renumber a brand new car, and secondly I see a wb/2600mm car in those photos.

Unfortunately I don't trust your word as you seem to claim things light-heartedly these days and rarely provide any proof for the claims you make. You are going to accuse me of provocation again, off course, but that is not the case as it is all true.

Here's the real photo without the taped off front license plate.
This is 4963 GT, born Verde Speciale with Beige Scuro VM 846 Connolly leather. The car lives in Switzerland now.
This 330 GT 2+2 was registered from 9 January 1964 until 16 December 1964 in the name of the factory (Sefac), not in Enzo Ferraris name.

Thank you for confirming - and revealing the license plate.

It apparently had two Swiss owners in 1965 and 1972, the last of which had placed the car in storage since 1974 - repainted red by that time. It finally traded last month.

Maybe he was obliged by italian „age discrimination“ law to drive a car with less power?

Or he was upset to permanently hear the Lampredi engine?

Or jealous because Avvocato Agnelli had 2 cylinders more under the bonnet?

Who could be happy driving a 132? I saw the man briefly on a factory visit in November 1979 exiting a chauffeured Lancia. Interesting that nobody has brought up the infamous 128 advertisement...
