The steering rack on my 1990 348TS needs to be replaced or repaired. The least expensive route would be a rebuilt rack but I cannot find a shop that does that type of work (NJ Metro).
Does anyone know of a shop that still does a rebuild for a 348 rack?
Does anyone know where i can find a new rack?
    Thanks

Rotex in Gardena California. They do not list the rack as being able to be rebuilt but they have rebuilt 550 and 348 racks for me in past. Maybe you talk to a guy and he will allow you to ship it then rebuild it after he sees it. I told him my 550 rack was out of volvo truck. They lazy want to get parts from their book and not do the work to look at bins and match parts to rebuild. There is also another guy Atlantic atuo eng. I have not used them but some pros like them. https://www.aaesteering.com

I had mine rebuilt by Adco in Houston. They have many years of experience with all sorts of Ferrari racks.

Aw italian here in central New Jersey has rebuilt steering racks in the shop you can just do an exchange + fee but it's cheaper to have it rebuilt yourself.

I called Rotex in Gardena and inquired on a 355 power rack rebuild and they quoted ... $700. I got so pissed I rebuilt it myself with a Volvo kit. The 348 rack is manual so unsure what kits would be available for that. This is one painful area with very little supply information available and even less for vendor sources. You can bet that the pro-shops are not sharing their sources.

Why does it need to be rebuilt or replaced.

Give use some details of the issues you have as they are pretty robust and simple.

Almost ever 348 I have seen has some form f this, being the outter bushing disintegrating as it is plastic. Pretty sure if the oil is not leaking its trashed and the gears get pitted. The steering racks are a consumable item with a high time much less than 30 years.

Thanks as I reached out to them and they do have a rebuilt rack... I’ve made an appointment with them to have mine replaced. I’m assuming you’ve had good experience with them? They seem to have an excellent customer service record.

I don't have them do any work but I buy parts from them. I've got a thread out there and how to replace the steering rack it's actually pretty straightforward

Yup, on a manual rack, the replacement is straight forward.

On a power rack for the 355, try this job only if you are an extremely talented tech.
