It broke after a friend bumped his head getting out. The seatbelt was still retracting and it such a fragile design.

I couldn't take the ribbon spool apart since something inside was jammed. I ended up buying spare motors from a 1988 Alfa Spider. They are indentical to the Ferrari part. I learned how to take the Alfa unit apart since it was $30 for two instead of $2k for one. Now that I have my stock unit apart I see the damage. The end of the ribbon is shredded. I have a replacement spool from the Alfa but need another ribbon.

    Does anyone have a spare?

Did your car already have the seatbelt recall done? You might be able to get it fixed for free from the dealer.

the recall replaced all the seatbelt components, oddly many owners never took their cars in from what I was told years ago.

Ferrari replaced mine about 6 years ago when I bought my car. Didn't cost me anything.

Exactly - There was a recall that replaced the entire system to include ecu, belts and rails.

    Thanks for the heads up.

This side was fixed by the dealer in 2003. I would have gone to the dealership if it failed on its own. But since my friend hit it, this one is on me to fix.

I also don't want to be afraid of this system. I can get this working even if I have to splice a ribbon from another car.

Jeff I have a complete unit I bought used from FerrParts just for the motor and haven't got to swapping it out yet. I haven't unspooled the ribbon fully but I did an inch or so to make sure it would wind/unwind and it was smooth. You are welcome to it...PM me with your address and I'll send it to you. I'm in Nor Cal so you'll have it in time for X-Mas!

Raysur, could you do a DIY write-up about the seatbelt fix. I too don't want to be afraid of the system. It does seem quite fragile. Thanks

Got it working! Thank you so much Tim!

I have this documented. I just need to make a bracket for the b station and I'll do a write up.

Please include some shots of how the various trim pieces are held on/removed if you can (I'm thinking some of the "fasteners" on mine got broken when FoDenver did the recall work, but I'd like to know more about it before I jump in.)
