Poor 12893 needs much more than a bit of TLC.
It actually should be brought back to original Berlinetta configuration with a proper roof, done by Carrozzeria Egidio Brandoli in Montale, Italy.
And then painted in the original color Bianco Polo 20-W-152.

People go mad about an 812 GTS ...because it is a 'convertible v12'...

...well here we got another! Drive a Daytona spider for less than the price of and original spider and most likely even less than a coupe...

Don't change it, drive it! After all it is a 12 cilinder Ferrari and you can take the top off....exactly what people want today.

Today's people can't shift anymore nor do they know what a clutch is............and they want an electric power hardtop/roof not a soft top where they can potentially get dirty fingers or break their nails............besides all that, I am not sure about the chassis frame flexibility on these cut cars............and original is the car not (sorry for being so pedantic).
    Just my 2 cents.

Yes, seem rather sad example in deed, averaging barely over 20 miles annually for past 18 years. :(
Can make one wonder expenditures such lack of exercise (neglect?) has incurred for the next brave owner(s).

Just out of curiosity and with all due respect, but having never (knowingly) seen their coach work corrections or major metal repairs on 365 GTB/4s firsthand, would I be correct to assume they are familiar enough with all or most of the asymmetrical discrepancies and features characteristic on these to properly recreate a new and/or introduce used roof on to this one and make it appear authentic ?

    Absolutely.
Mr. Egidio Brandoli, the father, is the man who in the 1960s actually worked at Carrozzeria Scaglietti in Modena and built the Daytona bodies (plus also the 250 GT SWB, 250 GT Lusso, 275 GTB and GTB4, Dino 206/246, etc.). Egidio Brandoli was a close friend of Sergio Scaglietti and today still works in his own bodyshop in Montale, together with his son Roberto Brandoli, and a number of very loyal employees. The Brandolis own the original body bucks for most of the Scaglietti-bodied Ferraris and are highly specialised. I have known them for 40 years.

Here is 12419 in 2015 prior to being brought back to original Berlinetta configuration by Brandoli. I may have posted the below pix earlier already but don't remember now.

    Thanks, great to hear/read.
It's just that based on my limited observations (too) often many of the asymmetrical and characteristic "discrepancies and features" seem to get (accidentally ?) eliminated or lost during restorations requiring major coach work corrections or repairs, but I'm glad to learn there are others who pay attention to and make sure these authentic details are retained and/or recreated if necessary.

It is the method of creating the body that makes the asymmetrical discrepancies. In a new body or replaced body section there may be a different set of differences which do not necessarily make it incorrect.

The BaT auction has one of the worst Ferrari driving videos of all time. They should take it down and do another.

That driver has zero experience whatsoever with a car of this caliber. Better no video than this.

A rare Daytona with a rare color, definitely
needs to be restored to the original configuration. And of course Brandoli is the best choice.

I’ve always thought that chops were fine.

To me, the question is always whether the conversion was done because the car was rolled, or at least in a serious shunt. I certainly always suspect this when I see a conversion with a later SN, but with a plexiglass front.

At least this car looks like a relatively un-mucked-with Euro that had the plexinose from the start, and the engine bay seems to have all the bits that would expect. The fact that it still claims to have its aluminum doors is another good sign that it was not rolled. Plenty of little odd things to correct (though I don’t know enough about Spyders to know what might be really off there), but I certainly have inspected worse... :)

Yeah driving video is lame, but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one that was not. Heck most of the Daytona review/test videos rave about the sound/power, yet never seem to go above 5k rpm.

One nice thing was that the buyer of the last conversion that was on BaT commented that the car was running and he was enjoying it. Always good to hear stuff like that. I paid tangibly more for my car, close to two years ago, and can’t claim it is really running yet...

Don't feel bad Alex, initial misjudgments/-steps and resulting learning curves are fairly common among buyers of variety of vintage cars, regardless of make/model and especially those acquiring their first of something.

That's why a buyer of any old/used car should always be mindful of, not only of their ability to afford buying, but also owning (and whatever "surprises" may come with) it.

Even without any considerations to her aesthetics, I can easily see minimum of several 5 figure (or more) invoices needed for the topic of this thread to make her sorted enough to be enjoyed (extensively) as a reliable driver.

    Hi Timo,

    The encouragement is appreciated.

In my case, I would not say that there were any misjudgments. I knew pretty much what I was getting into.

The delays are mostly due to external things (COVID, some changes at the shop that I am using, etc...), rather than anything not being as expected (or at least not ruled-out) with the car...

The down-turn in the market is a bummer, but things go-up and things go down. Just the way it is...

I've always been sort of at odds with the conventional wisdom of "buy the best, where all the work has been done already". Having looked a fair number of cars that seem to fall into this category, I can say that I've yet to really been convinced that there was not a good probability that your "several 5 figure invoiced" applied to each of them as well. At one point I even looked at a car that had literally been mechanically completely redone; told I had to keep in below 4krpm because it was so fresh, and it popped out of gear repeatedly; my net-net impression was that it was really completely unknown whether the rebuilds had been done properly... :)

The above is also a reason why I liked the comment from the buyer of the previous conversion on BaT; nice to hear that the guy did not end-up unpleasantly surprised.

    Cheers,
    Alex

That sounds about right. It looks like there has never been a Daytona on BaT which made it about $500k, and the last cut coupe went for $490k.

Good that the seller had a reasonable reserve.

Well, whether it'll end up being a project for a ...
    ... reliable/useful driver or...
... full restoration back to OEM (Berlinetta) configuration...
    ..., it's a start.

But would that expenditure guarantee the roof getting installed correctly crooked along with all other obscure, but authentic OEM coachwork features EAR or subsequent repaints/restorations might’ve “erased” ?

I think that Marcel's recommendation is best, send it to Brandoli. Or do nothing.
