Every time I start my FF it is a thrill. When I drive to the gym or market, I just think how lucky I am to be driving a Ferrari. I have a 430 spider with a manual for fun on backroads
I daily drove my FF then upgraded to the Lusso last year. Love it. I also drive the Pista Spider quite often (5,000 miles in 5 months). Sadly between the Lusso and Pista it didn't leave a lot of time for the Scud. I have a 7 and 9 year old and absolutely love the Lusso as a daily. Does everything. And when I'm in that playful mood Friday afternoon hit the Novitec Switch for race mode exhaust and nothing is better than that V12 sound. Little known fact - a full 5gallon drum of TWP deck stain will fit in the bonnet of the Pista. Guys at Ace Hardware thought I was nuts.
I have cars in rotation and try to make sure they get used regularly. The 16M sits the most unfortunately. As long as something fits in the car I’ll use it for any mundane errand.
I retired and got rid of my Mercedes S coupe, which split daily driver duties with my 612. Now I split daily driver duties between my 612 and my 65 Vette. I find it to be a great combination. The 612 is perfect as an all around daily driver and the Vette is fun for sunny day cruising. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
What about your F40 ? Have you played with that lately ? MDS PS: Would love to “daily” a white F12/812 ...
Image Unavailable, Please Login unfortunately, the F40 is still in parts waiting to be reassembled. i reckon the return date for that one is january but i have attempted to daily that one back in geneva, but parking it was not easy. still, it was fine to drive around town - at lower speeds it is just a 308. here is a pic of it doing some mundane duty
Hi Ross, I too live in Houston and am looking for my first Fcar(328 likely). Am curious how the road conditions impact your experience( as I assume that’s what you’re implicitly referring to)? I DD an AlpinaB6 (& enjoy a comfortable commute); the Fcar will be for WE strolls only. Any roads/ areas to avoid in your experience?
I drive my 599 almost daily (4 days this week, 600 km in total). Great car, I don’t see a good reason to not use it as a daily driver. I have to wash it now though, it’s covered in salt, that’s the only downside of driving it in the winter.
The issue for many using the Ferrari as a daily driver is the mileage depreciation issue. So if you are going to use it as a daily driver you have to get your head beyond that. I did and I am extremely happy I no longer worry about the mileage I rack up. Also I am finding that the maintenance cost is not that much greater than if you kept it as a garage queen and did the annual servicing. So it was a good choice for me.
I still use my 330 GTC as a daily driver. And it's the only car to win "Best of Show" TWICE at Hilton Head Island. It now has around 201,000 miles and still runs like new. It would have a lot more miles but I also drive my 1959 MGA, 1967 ALFA GTV and 1974 FIAT Spider regularly. Bob Z. Image Unavailable, Please Login
the roads in houston are inexcusably poor - like 3rd world poor. a 328 will have higher aspect ratios and will be a little more comfortable. i was in phoenix/scottsdale over thanksgiving, and al the roads there are glass smooth, and same in most of florida. i love texas, but my god, the roads are an abomination.
exactly. worrying about racking up mileage so that you can get a smidge more back on resale is depriving yourself of the entire reason to have one of these ultimate DRIVING machines. they are meant to be driven, so drive them. the older ones will remain in better shape by doing so, and the younger ones will lose almost as much by not being driven just because there are many of them.
Ross, now we have to get you out to Orange County, California! Beautiful cars and women, glass smooth roads, 60 is the posted speed limit on many 4 and 6 lane major surface streets and lots of toll roads where you can really go at whatever speed you want (with a good radar detector).
next time i am in LA visiting my daughters i will take you up on it ! i usually try to go see Craig Calder at Fastcars too.
I moved to Houston over 20yrs ago (from Europe) and thought exactly that- 3rd world. Things have marginally improved - hence my question on how to enjoy/ live with an older Fcar here. I see several on the forum who make it work, great to hear.
carefully. really wacked the front spoiler on the bbi exiting a restaurant last night. i feel bad about these things, but if we worried about those things we would never drive these cars.
