Yes, but how will people to the left and right of you in traffic know you're driving a Ferrari?!?

I have shields on a Rosso 488 Spider. Would’ve been considered a “party foul” not to have them. Going to order a Roma to have a GT alongside the sports car. Was going to do all black, including black calipers with no shields. Decided to go with Silver, yellow calipers, so yellow shields. All that to say, doesn’t matter! Do what you like! If you’ve spec’d your car based on resale concerns...I can’t relate. Life is too short. Enjoy life!

The only street cars with shields that look like they "belong" are the supercars, the 288, F40, F50, etc. IMO. They'd look weird without them.

On other street Ferraris, I wouldn't consider them a must have, there'a market for with and without shields.

I'm not a fan of shields in general, but I agree that for some models and colors that the shields help accentuate the contours and curve. This is an excellent example of that IMO...T

I don't want to start trouble Daniel (well maybe a little trouble) but what would really finish that car off is yellow calipers. :)

Reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw years ago on a bona fide hoopty and it read "My Other Car is Also a Piece of ----" :)

I have shields on my nero daytona Cali T but picked up a pair of the carbon fiber variety, which I think will look a little more subtle on a black car. Have not put them on, looks like a pain in the neck to do it. However, I also had a red F430 without shields and thought it looked just fine, too.

I think there are 2 camps. For the “experienced” Ferrari buyer the shields aren’t important. For the “new” buyer they are a must have....

I disagree I’m on my 3rd Ferrari and I like the shields. It’s just a design element just like adding carbon fiber some people love it and others don’t.

I disagree. I am a first time F car owner and I only considered the shields as a nice thing. Certainly not a must have. Important things like great original condition and a gated shifter were the must haves for me. The rest is just fluff.

    Admiral,
Did she have those shields before the restoration, when you first bought it?

I think they look great on any that came with them... However I would be fine with out them especially on the larger cars like the FF or 612 etc... .

Tom, the answer is no but there is an interesting story behind that answer.

In the first photo below of Luigi Chinetti and Rubirosa's car at Nassau in December 1955, the factory SF shield is still on the car. Rubirosa had Chinetti repaint the car in a much darker blue before the Sebring race in March 1956.

35 years ago when I was still trying to find out any history about my car, the Rubirosa car was one of several potential candidates in my search. Check out the Burnside photo, second below, of the Pauley/Rubirosa car at Sebring 1956. For a couple of years no one could figure out what the blue shield meant on that car nor which car it was. In about 1987 I found the driver who towed the Ferrari to Sebring. He told me that when driving through south Georgia he encountered a very heavy rainstorm, and that after the storm, the new fresh paint over the SF decal lifted. Hence the light blue you see in the Sebring photo is just the original paint which was under the original water appliqué SF shield.

When I undertook the 8 year major conservation project, my goal was to replicate the livery that the car wore at the 1st Gran Prix of Venezuela in November 1955 as shown in the third photo below with Eugenio Castellotti at the wheel. So the car now has the identical water appliqué SF shield as it had originally,
    only newer.

Street Ferraris are not supposed to have shields- unless its a special Ferrari like the F40 or even a special model (eg. Challenge Stradale). Only then is it OK for a street Ferrari to have them.

My 355 had shields (which were not factory). I promptly removed them.

It is very interesting to see what shields have done to Ferraris. As my friend put it (who sells them), shields are part of the brand now.

Paul you are correct, only the factory team race cars carried the Scuderia Ferrari (SF) shield back in the day.
