Thanks for the pictures. The pill that sits on top is too thick on US cars. I doubt they needed the extra height for the brake light.

I believe it was Bob Norwood, I had one on my my 91 TR. it was perfect for a Black TR, but now I have a white TR, I don’t think it would look as good. I agree, it’s better to expose, what is hidden.
