Yes, a sad day, but what a life. I suspect he had few regrets. And in true Bond style, died at his residence in the Bahamas. Even well into his 80s, he was modelling Luis Vuitton photographed by Annie Leibowitz: I always thought his crowning achievement was throwing Honor Blackman onto a bale of hay. My condolences Wes.
He certainly set the standard didn't he. Anyone after Connery was always going to be compared to the original. The scene in "Dr No" where he first introduces himself is one of the truly most iconic in movie history. And, apart from being the original 007, he benefited from the best of the original Ian Fleming stories, and Ken Adams's amazing set designs. FWIW though, IMHO George Lazenby could have been the other "best" if it hadn't all gone to his head.
Its well worth Google and the story behind one the Aston Martin DB5s used in Goldfinger and its theft in the late 1990s #DP/216/1. Stolen from an airport security hanger ....perhaps flown out as cargo ...but to where ?
