have a set of HRE P101s in 21/22 fitment but recently ordered up a set of 18x12 matching rears to toss a DR on with for messing around at the track. curious if anyone else had mounted a set yet and what size you went with. Eyeing the 305 45 18 Street R MT but its a shade tall, other option is the 345 35 18 et street 2 but then you loose some sidewall.

Pic from most recent event, car has downpipes and tune from mitch over at M engineering, had some good 800 whp + hellcat kills and some upper 7xx viper and vettes

Have you gotten confirmation that this will fit? I know 18's could be pinched on a 458, but was also told that the closed top calipers on the 488 are too tall.

A few questions. How are you going to heat them? You can't haze them in the box as the car won't let you do a burnout.
Another more important thing is this. If you can get a set of drag radials to hook, I suspect that you are looking at broken parts quickly. The car was not designed to handle this kind of launch. An example of this is gears. They are extremely hard long wearing gears, which is the exact opposite of what you run on the strip. Drag cars use soft gears that can absorb the impact of the launch without cracking etc.
Just something to be aware of.

Regarding tyres. Due to your size, run the M/T ET Street R in 325/35R18. You would have been better off running 305/40R18, but your wheels are too wide.
But the size I suggested, is roughly the same diameter as the OE rears.
325 ET Street R is more than plenty. They will launch 1500 hp 3300 lbs cars on trans brake all day.

The challenge for your car is to survive the launch. Personally I would have gone for a 10.5 inch wide wheel and run 275 section ET Street S/S. The S/S 305/40R18 is probably the safest option if you value your driveline.

you cant brake stand it but it still does a decent enough burn out leaving in first at wot, especially in a water box. (in ct with esc off) we will find out on the broken parts part im curious how the how the axles and diff holds up more so then the trans.

HRE confirmed they can make a program for the p101's to clear the rear brakes prior to putting the order in so we are good on that front. the 305 45 18 street r fits fine on a 12" got a local buddy that runs that spec on his gtr with out issue, i was just more curious about the tire diameter on the 488 as its 29" tall (current 335 25 22's on there are 28.7 tho so its only marginally bigger)

i forgot they came out wit that size not to long ago on the 325 35 18 in the street R compound. good call on that one

the 345 35 18 et street 2 is a worse compound but the tire diameter and tread width is a little better tho. probably will snag up that 325 35 18 street R.

I would definitely keep the diameter down a tad. 29 will greatly affect your final drive ratio compared to 27 or 28".

The gears I am concerned about are not so much those in the transmission, but rather your ring and pinion. But all the materials in the driveline have been designed to wear hard and run cool, not absorb impacts. That goes for CV joints, stub shafts, gears, pins, bearings etc. Just something to keep in mind.

probably roll with the 325 35 18 and see how she does.

the event from the previous weekend and the upcoming one are no prep so its not as bad as it sounds. we will see though

Let's ease off a bit. I've been curious about this for a while. The ET running Street R will be interesting.

I would not be surprised if it runs between 10.10 and 10.20 if it works:)

its probably floating in the 670-680 wheel range i would suspect. its holding 21-22#s with 17* of timing now, with the stock turbine wheels on these being fairly fragile we didnt want to lean on them too hard.

Car looks so much more muscular on 18’s and that tire.

So what does the car run in the 1/4 mile on street tires and now on the 18” DR tires?

Would 18" clear the front brakes? I'm guessing no? I like the 18" on the rear!

Quite sure it can be done on a 488 as it can be done on a 458. Forgeline have made 18" versions of their GA1R and GS1R wheels for those brakes for a long time. They are used a lot by the Corvette guys who track. While the 488 uses a different caliper than a 458/Corvette, everything else is the same, and from what I can tell, the outer radius of a 488 caliper is no different than a classic Brembo GT6 caliper.

So while I don't know if HRE can do it, I'm very sure Forgeline can. Additionally it is worth noting that Forgeline now offers a line of wheels specifically made for modern sportscar drag racing. They even offer beadlock versions and skinny fronts of the GS1R.

Width and offset would be nice.
