After nine months of a motor rebuild, I finally have my car back.

I purchased the car in January of this year. I first noticed an oil leak a few days after taking possession. The leak ended up being from the head gasket. A compression test found two bad cylinders. There ended up being five bent valves as well. A full rebuild consisted of all new bearings, Nikasil liners, and rebuilt heads.

Along the way, I added some fun bits to keep me sane. Momo Monte Carlo steering wheel with Hill adapter, 18” HRE 305m on Michelin PS4S tires, and Nitron coil overs rounded out phase one of the build. On deck for phase two is a KW HLS front lift system, rear Challenge grille, and BBK (to be determined).

I bought the car for an insane price. I knew I was taking a gamble. It didn’t pay off the way I had wanted, but that was the risk. In the end, I have a 2.7 Berlinetta with a fully sorted motor in good driver condition.

The previously owner did the engine out incorrectly and the belt skipped. Five bent valves and two scored cylinders later it was in need of a full rebuild.

    Brandon,

It's good to see you out and about in your F355 Berlinetta. I knew those wheels would look beautiful on your car! You made the right choice.

Enjoy and drive your 2.7 in good health.

He has a large exotic car rental company, and his in-house "techs" performed the work.

Looks great. I'm one for keeping things as original as possible, but that being said I really do like your choice of wheels.

I personally wouldn't replace the suspension or brakes with anything aftermarket.

was the car even drivable like that when you first took possession? or you knew there was potential issues other then the oil leak.

I knew it was a gamble, but it did not have an oil leak when I took possession. It began shortly thereafter.

    Update:

280 miles into the rebuild, and a valve dropped into a piston. The motor needs to be rebuilt, again <sigh>. Not sure exactly what happened, but the motor is coming out to see exactly what went wrong. Good thing I have a warranty on the rebuild, and the builder is doing the right thing and taking care of it.

    Can 2020 suck any harder?

sorry to hear this. that is unbelievable.

warranty or not that builder would have to suck it up regardless.
