All these rich kids should have satisfied the FIA in regard to obtaining a Superlicence. Personally, I am not against money buying some privilege, like an entry into F1. But money alone cannot buy success, so the merit will sort itself out soon or later.
It is the way of the future. Even the lower classes of racing are getting out of reach of people who don't have a genetic forebear that has piles of cash to fluff away on grand extravagances. The future of F1 will be a bunch of spoiled, vaguely talented billionaire brats driving around on street circuits that are little more than the equivalent of pylons set up in a parking lot.
Well, I know of a case of a F4/F3 team that invoiced the father of a driver the first installment of the season. A few days later, a bag full of cash arrives at team's facility, after being transported in an executive jet. The astonished team owner called his contact in the driver's country and asked "Do you know what his dad do?!?"
I used to work at a bank and we had money laundry sensitivity training: Never accept a suitcase full of cash if given to you by a customer. Funny thing was I worked in IT, far, far away from any customer contact.
I suppose Hamilton's constant and record breaking success might also have something to do with it. GOAT by the end of the season (or even before that).
It's well known that, apart from being a loophole facilitating tax evasion, sponsoring can be an ideal outlet for money laundering. There is the case of the Witthington brothers buying their Porsche 935 from Erwin Kremer on the starting grid at Le Mans 24 hours. They got $1/4 million in cash out a duffle bag they kept in their motorhome in the paddock. I believe they were notorious drug runners in the USA.
No it’s reality. Stroll and others push their way around until they are pushed back. His belligerent video was a perfect example. You also post often similar feelings. Money and pay drivers always occupy F1
If all goes well for him, Hamilton should have equalled or broken most of the records in F1 history by the end of this season. At the moment, he is still behind Schumacher in the number of laps led, and the number of fastest laps. But he is equal in terms of wins, well ahead in the number of poles, etc ... As for the percentages, he is well ahead too. It's only stats, of course ...
Plus that little detail of WDCs...as you said, by the end of the season he'll have that one too. And he might get an 8th title next year.
I’m of the opinion that nearly half of the drivers in F1 don’t deserve their seats: Latifi Stroll Magnussen Grosjean Giovinazzi Albon Kvyat
I don't think you should count your chicken before they have hatched, but bar accident, it looks good for Hamilton getting one or 2 more wins at least to beat Schumacher's record. And the 7th WDC title looks more probable race after race. It's possible that Hamilton may get 100 poles, and GP 100 wins before he stops!
They all had to meet tough requirements to get a super license. So they certainly deserve to be in F1. That aside half the grid in F1 was always comprised of also-runs and never-beens. That's just the nature of it. And I bet it is similar in other motor sports. Not everybody can be a winner. Fun thing is that even some of the worst guys still pulled in millions in sponsor and prize money.
Almost half of the teams are not able to build a competitive car, so shouldn't be in F1 either with that logic.
Some people treat F1 as business, and without entertaining big ambition. They are happy if they can make a living in the sport they like.
It would be interesting, and I suspect entertaining, to see the current grid have a virtual practice, quali, and race in identical simulators.
Like FA The point obviously is that given how Stroll's results have improved with a better car, so too would the other drivers. Of course we see that a better car does not make a better racer, and some on that list have shown they are mostly sour cream.
Alonso's failure to get in a winning car is of his own making, IMO. He is known to be toxic in a team and therefore not on many people's wish list.
