I am looking into the idea of switching out the Becker NIT in the 458 for one from the F12 as a trial project. The reason I selected the F12 is because the cars are generally of the same vintage, and the electrics should be quite similar.

Has anyone here had any experience with the entertainment electrical systems?

Ferrari said it could be possible, but entirely at our own risk, and that they wont guarantee anything.

I have come up with a parts list of the units that are potentially required:

    292721 ANTENNA CONNECTOR CABLE
    286161 WI-FI ANTENNA
309772 USB PORT ( to be fitted in cigarette lighter)
    321663 CAN BOX
    329927 INODE ECU
    305233 NQS-NTM LVDS CABLE
    OR
311948 CABLE FROM USB TO NDM

And then which ever BECKER NIT would be needed.

I think the one major lacking thing in the 458 is connectivity to your phone. I absolutely love having carplay in my F12.

Is this a crazy idea that will never work, or is there a possibility with the right units that it could?

Bovee has been hit and miss in all my 458’s.
Lightning to 30 pin adapter has been more reliable.

I agree. I’m on my second Bovee and it works about 25% of the time at most.

Years ago I upgraded my 987 Cayman’s head unit and had my first experience with CarPlay so understand how convenient it can be; especially considering how cumbersome it can be to interact with the nav system. My M4 doesn’t have CarPlay and I don’t miss it too much. This puts CarPlay solidly in the nice-to-have category for me.

One of the things I dislike about my 458 is the lack of Bluetooth streaming. I have a hack that seems to work well. I bought a 2nd iPhone (smallest cheapest iPhone) with a 2nd line that I keep in my glovebox. Then when I’m driving I can use Spotify on my primary phone to control the phone in my glovebox. Weird and convoluted but it works.

For the F8 I’ve ordered I’ve specced CarPlay as well as the upgraded sound system. My 458 has the base system and for someone like me that really loved music, it’s just not very good. I adore the car overall, but the audio system has me very tempted to go aftermarket.

It's kinda annoying that you need to reconnect to Bovee every time you change the source. But otherwise it's worth the few bucks it costs.

Yes I have the Bovee/Tune2Air now. I used it previously my in 2008 C63. In the 458 you have to disconnect, then reconnect every time.

I do love the carplay in the F12, its such a world of difference everything from Nav, to Spotify etc...

The 458 does not have Nav in Hong Kong, and the wired solution with the 30pin cable hanging out of the glovebox is so ugly.

Just was curious to see if anyone has ever attemped to swap out Ferrari media systems and what would happen!

My understanding is if you swap out the radio for the F12 one, the paddles start working the windshield wipers, you have to use the power seat adjustments to change gears, and the fuel door button changes the radio station. You know, the usual stuff when you mess with Ferrari electronics.

I gave up on the Bovee and use the 30pin to lightening adapter. I ran a black cable out the back it the glove box and along the center tunnel. No more cigarette lighter needed for power and an overall cleaner look. At least in my black interior! And no issues with music now.

    But CarPlay would be better.

Thank you! Thats not too bad! The funny thing about the iPhone is that when you put it into the forward section, its just snug enough to press all three volume and power buttons to initiate an SOS call, happens way too often! The rear tray where the socket is is a good place, but easy for the phone to slip out of. Must help having the cable there! Did you have to cut anything to run the cable through?

My idea was to replace the socket with the F12 CarPlay USB port.
