I have a question about the rear heat shield in front of the rear bumper, can you drive without it as mine is just trash when i removed it? How do you guys do it? is there some other way to protect the heat, can i insulate the exhaust silencer? I don't have the original setup anymore but the Nouvalari SS which is a smaller box, like Tubi.
Running without a heat shield is asking too much from the bumper and paint. I was sick of the tight fit with Capristo exhaust and the stock heat-shield so I made a custom one to protect my OEM heat-shield from damage. It’s a rigid alloy heat shield that can withstand and reflect extremely high temperatures. It was massively noticeable to the touch the difference of bumper temperature with and without a shield in place.
^^^^ Looks great too....it that a generic sheet material? source? did you eliminate your OEM shield, or is this one placed over it?
That looks real clean and much better than original. Where did you source the heat material for this? i suspect you formed the heat shield to the old original mold to get the correct shape in the end?
It completely replaced the stock heatshield and does a much better job to boot. I sourced it from an eBay seller it’s DCI XT-1000 rated to 1000 degrees Celsius. It’s dimpled alloy like they use on turbo blankets and Tubi headers. It comes as a flat sheet I form rolled it to match the OEM curvature. Added the black line as per OEM. It’s totally reversible when I concours the car I swap back the exhaust and the stock heatshield.
The sellers ebay ad says 700x320mm, i measured my stock heat shield and it's 700x360mm so it's close.
Correct it’s a bit shorter but does the job. You can rivet on longer lower brackets if you are so inclined.
I contacted DCI in Australia and they told me the US distributor is 3P Connect https://3pconnect.com/# They also offer a heat shield material with greater thermal properties and a sandwich of ceramic material http://www.dciperformance.com.au/products/view/id:747/title:XT-5000 very nice products i conta
I don’t think so, you won’t be able to get to the upper heat shield bolts. The rear bumper on the other hand is quite easy to take off (8 bolts and 3 electrical connectors)
I love the idea of protecting the rear bumper from excess heat and have seen a number of rear bumpers with spider cracks most likely caused by heat, but wonder if a better heat shield is a bad idea keeping more hot air in the engine bay? what do you think MAD828?
