Ken Okuyama just introduced Ferrari 599 based Kode57. As some of you know, Ken Okuyama is world's renown car designer. Some of his work includes Ferrari Enzo, Ferrari P4/5, Porsche 996, Porsche Boxster, Maserati Birdcage 75th, Maserati Quattroporte. Yes he did 599 and 612. However, he broke his back while dirt biking and was laid up for 6 months during the 612 design phase and as a result wasn't able to push as hard as he wanted for the production car based on his original designs.
It reminds me the old Ferrari Rossa Concept! http://www.dpccars.com/gallery/var/albums/Most-expensive-Ferrari-cars-in-The-world/07-04-2013-21-2000-Ferrari-Rossa-Concept.JPG
I agree. The first design was something new back then in comparison with the new one which reminds me the 'evolution' of the first.
Its just another bizzaro wet dream car, yet had Ferrari badged it with an F12 TDF engine/drivetrain and limited run of 150 the car would have all been pre sold at $3M+ base MSRP each. Haha only in Ferrariland could that happen (although Lambo is catching up).
Looks like Ken Okuyama has his YouTube channel. You should check it out. If people ever see this car driving on the road, guess how many people are gonna say "wow it's an ugly car" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq1ZYA-BTgA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENmqlxLh6WY
Sorry, I still think it looks like a transformer from a cereal box. Of course that's just me. I have always understood that Frank Stephenson designed the 612..?
Which was a real shame, since the original sketches he did were amazing, much better than the production car. You see that they neutered the sides by adding a straight beltline instead of running the belt along that graceful curve Okuyama drew. Then the nose ended up like a knock-off toy rendition that never had the strong look and proportion of the design. It has a sharp line in production that doesn't match up with the belt line like the lines of the 360/430, etc. Of course, sketches are always aggressive about certain details, especially things like wheels and arches, but they really made it bland. Ryan, thanks for those comparison shots of the concept sketches and production model. The concept is truly more dramatic. I have to admit the 612 was never on my radar until I saw one in person - stunning (yet restrained) in the metal; a true gentleman's express.
I like the concept drawings but then I am already hooked on the 612. The 612 wasn't on my radar either when I went looking for my first Fcar. I was looking at 360, F430, 550, 575M and 599s not really knowing what I wanted until I came across the 612 since I was looking for something like my CL55.
Ken told me that he always drew the car with larger wheels, and Ferrari was very resistant to putting 20 inch wheels on any of their cars, at least in 2005. He stated that the 20 inch challenge wheels improve the car, but he is mulling doing some modifications on a 612 project car to restore his original vision of the scalloped sides.
I liked his wheel treatment with wider spokes as compared to the earlier cars but for my car I really like the Challenge wheels. My car looks first car pictured above same color and wheels w/yellow calibers.
Me too, I've offered to send my car to Japan in case he is willing to do two ! But then he said, it wouldn't be a one off. Anyway, I'm not known to give up so easily. More as I get it !
