Is that your argument now? As a matter of fact I did actually watch the race...in it's entirety.

Dumb question, just a thought. Does anyone suspect Mercedes turned down Bottas' power? His car seemed so incapable of making progress during the race, while Hamilton just cruised it and made up numerous places after his 10 second penalty?

There was indeed a malfunctioning piece in that car. It was located between the steering wheel and the engine's air intake.

Ahah thanks I was curious about that: The President congratulated him saying the country and he were very proud of what he was able to accomplish. He was very pleased obviously. The football superstar Mbappe (who got France the world cup 2 years ago) also called him.

Yes, Gasly may even get the Légion d'Honneur distinction, and the 8th of September become a National Holiday.

Unlike the Brits, the French are not used to win very often, you see, so we will have to allow them some indulgence. ;)

But we eat so much better at home! We will not trade that for all the titles of Lewis.
    Believe me !

Bottas issues as noted by Mercedes -

Bottas reported a puncture, but the tyre pressure sensors didn't agree and there was no obvious damage to the car. There was a cooling problem on both Mercedes, but it was not limited to Bottas' car and was down to the team expecting cooler temperatures on race day rather than any damage or reliability issues.

The team was able to open up the bodywork under the red flag period to ease the cooling issue, but the problem persisted until the end of the race. Hamilton managed to fight from the back of the field to seventh, Bottas was only able to make up one place on track after the restart when he overtook Kimi Raikkonen for fifth.

After the race, the lack of performance was still something of a mystery.

"Before being disappointed we have to find out what happened to the car," Wolff said. "The car didn't turn well into the right-hand corners. Valtteri thought he had a puncture but we couldn't see anything on the data and that's why we kept him out.

"But on those right hand corners you could see that he was losing a few car lengths to the car in front. Obviously if that happens through Ascari and Parabolica even with DRS you cannot overtake. A driver wouldn't speak of a puncture right after the start if there wasn't anything."

LOL :D maybe a tad harsh ..but I am sure it brightened up the day of the Ham hate brigade, watching him and Lew have a bad day at the office.

Why any conversation in France turns into a discussion about food? Are you obsessed by food?
Is that the way you identify yourself? Food?
I am not the only non-French who noticed that.
I lived in Belgium for several years, and even them commented about the French obsession with food.
Even the Italians don't mention food all the time, althought theirs is better, IMO.

BTW, we may think we eat worse in UK, but at least we don't make fuss about it, nor do we need a 2-hour break for lunch ! ;)

I think you mean envious, not jealous.
You see, jealous in English and jaloux in French are faux amis; they don't mean the same thing.

Because sharing a good meal and good wines with friends is one of the great pleasures of life.
You understand the meaning of pleasure, I’m sure.
Gastronomy is an integral part of the French identity.
    You’re talking about two-hour meals.
Just so you know, it’s a joke in my family, just an appetizer!
Some festive meals last 4 or 5 hours.

It is certain that if it were British gastronomy, one would not linger so long at the table;)

+1000 during my racing years 1986-89 living near Silverstone meals were a punishment, meat like shoe soles hopelessly overcooked vegetables and pub food was disgusting while the drunks fought, thankfully there were Indian and Chinese restaurants. All of us foreign drivers used to roll out eyes over the err... nourishment, my teammates from Brazil and Japan included.

Well, I never do that. When we socialise, it's at the pub around of pint, for a game of darts, never for a meal.
Occasionally it could be for golf, or a ride on motorbike, or some sporting activities. (sailing, hicking, fishing)
Many Brits I know are not strong on gatherings, and would consider a 4 or 5 hours meal as a bloody waste of time.

The culture, the mindset, the interests and priorities are very different from country to country, that's for sure.
Having tasted life in UK for years, my French wife is now very critical of her country.
