I’m currently shopping for a v12 lusso, dealer disclose that the full car was resprayed to factory spec at New Jersey port prior delivery to its first owner. Would this going to affect its value big time? It’s not showing in the carfax.

Did the dealer say why they had to respray? Ive been told its pretty common that they have to do touchup when the vehicle arrives into port. They dont usually disclose that as it can be part of the normal delivery process. If they had to do a full respray that speaks to more severe damage especially if the dealer is disclosing it. I personally wouldn't touch the car. There are plenty out there for sale without that as part of history.

As far as resale goes I guess the question is will you disclose it? Did the dealer disclose it because its pretty apparent it was resprayed if inspected?

They said they have no idea why the whole car were resprayed at port. They told me they got this info from previous owner. I had previous experiences on manufacturer touch up some area at port but unheard of respray the whole car. I guess I will pass this example .

What shows up on the car fax?

Did they use the device that measures paint thickness?

At least the Ferrari dealer is honest enough.

Can you post for sale info on this car in case the dealer decides not to continue being so forthcoming

For the relationship between me and dealership, I’d rather not to post it in public, since they are 100% transparent in the beginning. PM me if anyone serious in market for a V12 lusso.

I would ask the question to you - if you had 2 identical cars in identical condition but one was resprayed which car would you choose? There is your answer.

Respray AT the port? Hard to believe they have facilities for a full respray at the port.

Sounds like a story to make the situation seem less bad than damage incurred after use and full repaint needed.

Haha if they put “ whole car had resprayed” on their ad title. I would even look into it.

I’m pretty sure the car had hard a time to sell when it’s new. 2017 car but first in-service date is mid 2018. Still have 3 year bumper to bumper factory warranty remaining.

Typically the warranty would start on the in service date. You will not get 3 years of bumper to bumper unless someone added the 4th and 5th year extension. If they CPO the car then it will add 2 years but not like the new car warranty.

As others said, move on. There are too many other non storied cars at great prices to consider.

For sure, just curious if anyone ever heard the term “resprayed to factory spec at Newark port”.

I’ve heard of major touch ups and major paint repair at the customs/Ferrari North America receiving point and repainting under rare circumstances but it is not regular by any means I believe.

Probably done at FAPS in Port Newark, very large facility that does repairs, modifications for emissions/safety, iirc they do the seat removals for Turkish built Ford Transit that allow them to be imported without paying the Chicken Tax.

Either way, I would expect pricing to reflect non original paint.

“ full car respray “ ..... wouldn't make more sense to sent it back to the factory?

...bumper or even a panel repair, maybe but not an entire vehicle.

I’m interested in knowing what happened in transit to warranty it.

This is correct if its Port of Newark. FAPS/ Port of Newark is very close to Classic Coach as well. It must be pretty unusual for a new car to need a full respray. If there was no body damage but needed a respray, it could have been from airborne chemical damage. I'd love to know the full story.

Over time you will not enjoy the same result as a factory paint job. Moisture is just one big issue that is very difficult to contend with 'out in the field' unfortunately...
