Definitely not a new or unique design, but always interesting.

Do you know what an elephant is? It's a mouse designed by an FAA committee. This airplane looks like a hodgepodge of design elements by an FAA committee.

I would hate to be flying that thing in heavy traffic. What would those square intakes act like at high AOA. Downward and outward vision ?? Did three guys design their own different pieces of the empennage?

Bob- They definitely missed area ruling. High mounted, small intakes like those always suck at high AOA. Even though the vertical stabilizer looks plenty high enough, they still added a strake for stability at high AOA.

It's a turbocharged diesel V-12 engine, not a turbine.... does that matter for AOA????

Why would you area rule on a subsonic aircraft?

This is merely a take-off of a couple existing designs, dating back to the Germans (Dornier) in WWII. most recently look up VK30.

Jim- Area ruling works on subsonic aircraft just like it does on supersonic aircraft. There is just less fuselage area in the airflow to create drag. On airliners and executive jets, the compromise in passenger space is the reason you do not see it, plus the added expense of the complicated shape.

T- Diesels do not need air to run?

I think this airplane is designed to carry passengers too. ;) I can’t think of any GA airplane that is area ruled.

Look at the fuselage aft of the wing on a Falcon 900.

... This doesn't look very "laminar".... and always strange when each flying surface has a different plan form from all the others...

Exactly. It looks like 4 different people were designing 4 different things with no effort to coordinate anything. The intakes look completely out of whack and out of place. The entire thing appears to be a day dream sketch by someone waiting in the doctor's office. In my old mind, I can see turbulent airflow at a high angle of attack breaking off the wing and flowing up and back over the fuselage into those intakes. The whole thing looks impractical to me but what the hell do I know..

With a piston engine the issue is cooling. There are ways around that. Even if it were a turbine there are other planes that show it can work, e.g. Cirrus SF-50.

You seem to have an issue with the intakes. I was assuming your mention of turbulent flow was in regards to air flow into the intakes. This is a piston powered airplane, so the issue is how much flow (for cooling), not so much whether it is turbulent or not. They do have cowl flaps which I assume are meant to help increase air flow at low speed/high AOA. There are other methods that could be employed to increase flow at high AOA, e.g. supplemental intakes.

If you think turbulent flow is an issue for turbine powered aircraft then I offered the SF-50 as an example of an airplane with aft, top mounted intake that is flying on a certified airplane.
