https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/151652/briatore-hospitalised-with-covid19-diagnosis - His 'club' sounds like a viral mess

Former Formula 1 team boss Flavio Briatore has been taken to hospital in Italy after testing positive for coronavirus.

Multiple reports from Italy say that Briatore was transferred to the San Raffaele hospital to Milan on Monday as the result of complications caused by the virus.

While there has been no official statement on his condition, the respected 'L'Espresso' news magazine says that his condition is 'serious', although he is not in intensive care.

Briatore's illness comes off the back of a mounting controversy in Italy surrounding the closure of his Billionaire club in Porto Cervo, which has become a hotbed for a virus outbreak.

Around 60 staff members from the club have tested positive following recent tests, while Briatore himself recently participated in a friendly soccer match there with VIPs, including Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, who also tested positive for COVID-19.

With the Italian authorities pushing hard to shut down nightclubs, which have become a key source of outbreaks recently, Briatore recently expressed his anger at such actions.

He posted on Facebook: "My heart weeps to see an economy slaughtered by people who have never done anything in their lives."

Is it only me that sees the irony in this ? While I hate that anyone suffers, perhaps he'll learn he's not immune to disease no matter how rich you get.

Maybe he’ll understand why authorities were trying to protect people.

Now the medical staff have to waste their energy on saving a stupid, selfish ****head who thinks he knows more than them.

The issue is serious: after years of nicotine and cocaine, the heart of that guy must have the consistency of wet cardboard.

    Oh, correction, what heart?

Smoking is a choice... so I get that one... COVID is not a choice unless you choose to avoid the precautions...

Actually the opposite: It has been proven that smokers are somewhat less likely to suffer from covid 19. It's something about the nicotine being already bound to their lungs and thus leaving less space for the virus to attach.

When this came out, the doctors warned everybody from starting to smoke now.

I wish Flavio well, what a guy!

I didn’t mention smoking in my post but agree with your comment - like smoking, he made the choice to expose himself to the virus.

Too bad the health care workers don’t have the choice to not treat him.

Well, I know the EU has been sensitive to smoking related illness - as that is a huge cost... but it also ruined F-1 in my opinion....

Sleazy despicable people don't generate a lot of affection. Briatore is one of those people.

Errr...I'm confused here, isn't Flavio the Karen for thinking he's above a virus by virtue of being priveleged and disregarding safety guidelines? I guess you must also be one of those special people who thinks covid is a hoax...

I always liked a rogue character, and Flavio Briatore fits the bill, just like Bernie Ecclestone.
Never a dull moment with them !!! :)
