I fully support the idea of putting together the knowledge of at least 3 experts and make that book together That way the trust on the content will increase I will be happy to contribute with a bit of crowfunding
I just recently acquired a 1986 Ferrari Press kit for the 328 GTS, 328 GTB and Mondial. Happy to share that. Also, since my car is French Eurospec, also happy to share any technical information on those variants.
I have a multi concourse winning Australian delivered 89 328 GTS that I am happy to get professionally photographed for the book and provide any additional information as needed.
Nathan, I would buy it if it included the GT4, and how could it not as that is where the engine started. I have all the books mentioned earlier but still feel there is a lot more to be added. I hope you do it.
Agreed, no real definative guide to the GT4 either. Perfect opportunity to combine it with the GTB/S material.
In 35 years of ownership I've never read a book about the 308, other than the manuals. I buy cars to drive, I read manuals to know how to take care of them. The end!
That's because in the last 35 years there hasn't been a book on 308/328 worth reading !! (Not including yours Alberto)
I always buy any book available on any car I own or aspire to own. The more I know and understand about it, the more pleasure I derive from it.
I like cars....and I like books. If someone takes on this project (hopefully similar quality/design to Dino Compendium), it will sit proudly on my shelf. The 308 is crying out for such a book to be published.
As I wrote in the Collectables and Literature thread, if there is a market for a book specifically on 308 GTB Rally Cars then there is defiantly room for a comprehensive book on the 308/328/GT4 road cars in the marketplace. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Go for high quality, collector book standard. Make it a book worthy of arguably the most beautiful design of the modern Ferrari era. Small, exquisite little jewel of a car deserves a book that represents to the world the special car the 308 is. Not to suggest that the GT4 and 328 are not equally worthy of inclusion.
Mr. Biasioli (a great photographer and a Rally races big enthusiast) allowed me to publish on my book a couple of his precious pictures about the 308 GTB Gruppo 4 Rally. I want to add that writing a book about Ferrrari that can add something new is not easy at all and requires an enormous effort. But I have to say that the 308 is (by far) the most important Ferrari ever so it deserves every effort: this is what I already wrote and published. ciao
I agree that your book is excellent as you know, and as the title suggests focuses on the 308/328/288 and F40 turbo cars. We we are proposing is a comprehensive reference book just on the 308 GT4, 308 GTB/S , 328GTB/S early fibreglass cars, both turbo and non turbo, detailed spec, options, colours, trims, country specs, maintenance, etc...
I have to say that all the books that the OP Nathan Bheel has writtten show exactly that effort and attention to detail that you mention Albert. Any book he might write on the 308/328 series will be a serious contribution to any Ferrari library. I hope he goes ahead with the project because I would very much like to own such a book.
Not sure yet, since I run my own business. I planned slowing down during the next three to five years, but Covid-19 circumstances shattered my plans somehow. Best Martin
Thank you. I still vote for a cooperation project. So if you need someone for technical things, let me know. Just in case you don't remember. You also find me on your LinkedIn-contacts. And for correct historical technical details user TripleBlack and his site 308-328.com is a must have. Best from Germany Martin
Have to quote myself. OMG. I forgot to mention FChatter 'nerofer' (Bruno) for the history. Best Martin
I think from just a small forum sample you can see that there is a lot of interest in an proper "bible" style of book on one of THE most iconic, well loved, most sold and most significant series that Ferrari ever made (plus the GT4 ) And it seems there are quite a few experts happy to contribute specific information as required. I really hope you take the project on. Who would have thought after 40 plus years after it's launch and with all the thousands of Ferrari books published, it's still yet to be made !!
I apologize for my prior post as I was not aware of your qualifications as a writer and historian. I am curious now as to what aspects of the Ferrari 308 story are you most interested in detailing? I still think the human aspect is the part of the story that has never been told; the famous owners, famous tuners, cultural impact etc. Given that it is such a historic and beloved model, there may be a broader general public audience for a interesting story beyond the aficionado owners on this website. I am still amazed at how positively received my old car is when I just drive it around. Personally -- and I am as bias as anyone here on FChat -- I think the 308 GTB/GTS human interest story is enough for a book. Within the 308 GTB/GTS story are the Michelotto, Koenig and the race/rally stories. It is a good question as to whether the bookends of the GT4 and 328 are too much of a stretch. It would depend on how densely researched the rest of the story is. I am not sure where the GTO falls. It is a 308 in the same way a 328 is. The merits of their inclusion or exclusion is dependent upon the what aspect of the story you are telling.
