Mentioning Diniz was merely a historical anecdote and not a comparison by any means. Guilt by association appears to be Stroll Jr's main downfall. Again I re-iterate that beyond paying his son's way (nothing too out of the ordinary) Lawrence's involvement directly in F1 is pretty uncharted territory in recent times. Add in that he has a history of being a first class prick (regardless of his obvious business success) creates a difficult situation for his son to be seen as an individual who stands on the basis of his own achievements. This is made no easier by the fact that Stroll Sr. is always around which is different to most drivers who's benefactors (family or otherwise) are very much in the background especially when they reach F1.
I can understand that, from a European perspective. You get what our media wants you to get, i.e. outrage and hysteria. Kevin
"Bar-the-lona" (Spaniard speak) 2020. Quali Perez P4 Stroll P5 Stroll pretty close to Perez. Now comes the race tomorrow.
Lance is a tenth off of Perez starting in 5th quite a great performance for both RP drivers! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
"When did F1 become so competitive with team-mates? If you're two tenths off your team-mate, you haven't done great, if you're three tenths off, you're a joke! If you're a half a second off your team-mate, then you might as well get in the sea and not be a racing driver again. I swear in the old days, if a team-mate out-qualified a team-mate by half a second it was 'oh, he did a better lap'." Jack Nicholls BBC Radio 5 Live F1 commentator I would say that practise times were not even reported years ago, because they were used to bed in different engines and set up the cars. Even qualifications were not so intense as they are now, mostly because reliability mattered more then. Some teams didn't have qualif engines or qualif cars, and others prefered to spend time setting up their car for the race, rather than for a couple of banzai laps.
It's not surprising. Lance doesn't have Perez talent but he is still progressing, IMO. But he starts to deliver credible times now.
Well, Lawrence is probably not like Abraham who was ready to sacrifice his beloved son ... Although, nothing is impossible, of course.
I think it would make sense to keep Perez at Racing Point (Aston Martin next year) and to send Vettel to the psychiatrist.
Vettel never had a serious offer is what Im reading. There may have been contacts but nothing more. Contact among other contacts with differing teams for Vettel as well. Im sure he was testing the water for a seat. Given the situation waiting and ongoing at Clone Point, why go there. Perez seem quite firm in his announcement. Maybe something did happen in Mexico besides visit.
The part that bugs me, along with all the crap in this thread, is watching Stroll run solo and in pack. It is SO evident that he can drive. He puts in a competitive effort week in and week out...in Qualifying. His race craft is just not present. His ability to race in a pack, in a train, with other cars around is just so low. It is arguable the lowest in the field. With that being said, because the trolls love it, he normally puts the car in a point position. He should with the car he has. Let's hope he shows some glimpses of that race ability.
Agreed Watch his so called race-craft in this race(Barcelona 2020)....Stroll more than likely won't go into attack mode. Then Stroll has others drivers behind him that will attack Stroll....Norris, Albon, Gasly and possibly Sainz.
Vettel isn't the sharpest tool in the shed recently, and seems to have psychological problems to me. I wish him good recovery. But if you think he is still an asset at Ferrari, be my guest ...
Barcelona 2020 Stroll had a good race. Stroll 2 stopper. Perez a 1 stop....plus a 5sec penalty for ignoring blue flags. Stroll P4 and Perez P5
Stroll drove a great race, what a start! Team decided on different tire strategy, 4th and 5th is a fantastic result. Credit where credit is due! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Typical result so far. Otmar said they were working on the tires more to gain more pace in the race. They seem stuck in 4-7th etc. Lance has some of the best starts currently.
Congratulations to Stroll for a fantastic 4th place in Spain! Amazing start and well driven race. Steady wins the points.
