I think that many here are not getting that this is not just about Racing Point, but about Mercedes. It´s important to get this right now, or in the next seasons we´ll se many "copied" cars. My guess: Mercedes gave the blueprints to Racing Point. FIA knows it but will let it go to help Racing Point to survive. But that´s the end of the story: nobody will be allowed to do it again and Racing Point will keep a low profile these two seasons to not spoil their direct competitors. Probably they are going to slide backwards anyway as they don´t have the resources to develope their clone; and so far they haven´t made the most of it, have they? In 2022 everybody will have "original" cars again and will pretend nothing happened.
Maybe RB should think about a protest vs Merc: If they actually sold the brake ducts to RP they might have done something illegal themselves. Toss out MB's results and Max becomes the WDC leader.
As I said disqualification and nullification of race results is a rare and extremely hard punishment. Another option might be to dock the WCC points to punish the team financially but not affect the drivers' standings.
If the rules are that way - I have no problem with that result. I agree with Mclaren principle input. A whole car cloned is a bit much. RP are fools to think the rest of the grid do not see what they have done. Clones for all my friends! Spec-F1 is here lol
Spec-F1 is here already. If the cars had no livery you'd be hard pressed to distinguish them. When we worked on F1 liveries for racing sims we realized how much they help: Basically you build one F1 car model for the sim and apply different liveries and change the performance variables and voila you have ten different teams. Of course IRL the difference is in the details but with the amount of restrictions the rules define we really are close to a spec series already.
I wouldn't be surprised if they had been working on that; it's always good to have a "Plan B" at the ready.
Now we need clarification as to what is allowed or not, where the line in the sand is, not an opaque decision...
Low Cost penalty for Racing Point for the Brake ducts. 400.000 Euros penalty and 15 points from the Styrian GP. -Reprimend for GP de Hungría -Reprimend for the British GP
FIA is protecting MB and their customer teams. Weak penalty here with a clear rules violation and Ferrari engine allegedly circumvented the rules despite the lack of clear cut evidence.
The car is pure copy. Impossible to build it without precise datas. Mercedes is so powerful in this F1. Don't get why others will agree with that ?
