They also put in an amp. I hate it when people do this. PLEASE tell me it wasn't for subwoofers.

The car also has an arm pad in the center console. Where’d he get that?

A couple of questions; what were the differences between the "early" Cylinder heads and the later ones and does anyone know why the Ferrari script on the gas cap is upside down? Mine is like that and it seems like a miss in the attention to details department.

As far as I’ve been able to gather, there is not a lot of tangible data about the early cylinder heads, yet there are plenty of people that attest that the engines with these heads made more power. I am (of course) intrigued by this, as my car also has these early heads (Only a few numbers different is SN from the car above), and though I’ve got no back to back info, the previous owner has said that it (my car) was noticeably quicker than his other later year 355s. Physically the heads are different (screws on valve covers, spark plug well diameter, etc); I’ve heard that they have bigger/more agressive ports, but have also a risk of porosity due to thin wall thickness, but again this is all hearsay.
My gas cap script lines up horizontal more or less (if I don’t tighten it too much) I had wondered if they did this on purpose (would be a nice touch). Sounds like it is random.

Yes, as does mine. But is the script upside down when the cap is on tight?

The script is right side up when the cap is snug, if I make it really « tight » it goes maybe 20 degrees beyond horizontal. These are really #ferrariproblems ! :)

Not many 355s coming up for sale lately it seems. Been on the hunt for a dream spec for well over a year now and usually there's a fairly constant flow of cars being listed in Europe but as of late it's been very few and the prices seem to be climbing. I should mention I'm only looking for Berlinettas.

    Thoughts?

It’s the pinnacle of the period when cars were really cars and not computerized appliances. Enthusiasts will hold on to them.

is this different than standard black? Seems like
Big money this early on for a car with a few needs.

It's a metallic black, but basically a nice polish and good photographer are making this appear nice. The mileage, combined with the corroded acorn nuts and eroded emblems etc. make it look like it might've sat outside for a while...

Great color combo will do that. Perhaps it is the beginning of the collectors taking note. The ones that will put it right and not complain on youtube about it.

My thoughts are, the car is still extremely undervalued. Could you imagine if a 993 had a GT3 engine? What would that sell for.

That being said, I'm never selling. If I was still looking for a Berlinetta I would do what I did to find mine. Put up a wanted ad.

I have the same spec but non-metallic black so I agree :). I have a bit more mileage and owners but always surprised how those are valued vs a well sorted car.

A lot of paint any bumper issues for a car with such few miles.

Should be interesting to see where this ends up

There is some more detail on fchat if you do a search. I don't recall a definitive thread as much as random tidbits here and there.
Those early cars had neoprene spark plug gaskets (there's a thread with Dave Helms talking about those). Different (lighter?) pistons and a few other things as well. Daniel @ Ricambi knows a fair amount about the subject.
I had a '97 GTS at the same time as the car which now belongs to FourthAlfa, and that "early spec" car felt significantly faster. My current well-sorted '95 (not the early spec) is also noticeably quicker than my old '97. Would be interested to drive the early spec car now back to back with mine to see if there is a noticeable difference.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. I agree with the general sentiment here on the black car on BAT. Somewhat surprised it went for so much, but I can rarely make sense of BAT prices, especially on Ferraris.
There does seem to be a bit of a shortage of gated GTBs on the market currently...

I have seen other cars with similar filter treatment including red 348 Spiders fetch very good money. Note to self, over filter pictures to the point the car looks fake if I sell on BAT people seem to love that.

That said gated Berlinettas are a more desirable spec. Good for the seller.

A lot of money for a car that was obviously hit in the rear.
