Hi, Does anybody have any good ways to protect the seat bolster from ware? I try avoiding rubbing the seat bolster while entering or exiting the vehicle, but I tend to rub the bolster. Thank you? Tim 2017 488 Spider Black on Black
I know there are some companies that make aftermarket parts for the Porsche bucket seats to protect from wear on the bolsters, but am not aware of anything like that for the seats for the 488.
What seats ? I have full electric so before I turn off the ignition I hit memory 1 ups seat all the way back and the seat back back and the steering wheel into the dash. Then i slide in arse first then swing legs. Don't even touch the bolsters. Then touch memory 2 and back to driving position If you have goldrake you can manually do the same i guess but it so easy with electric
Tim, I posted this before. Do not know if it you happened across it. I hope it will help you as much as it does me. I can say I have had 5 Ferraris with dealer always remarking on my LACK of bolster wear. First, I always slide my seat back before exiting the car. This gives you the most clearance/space to maneuver. It is simplest with the race seat as no motor to contend with. If entering car, I put right leg in. I then reach down with my left arm and place it on the rocker. I can now support my body weight on the right leg and left arm. I then slide my left leg in. At this point there is no trick to supporting all your weight as it is on both legs and the left arm. Now that you have cleared the bolster and can slowly lower yourself into the seat. Using this method you can stay off the bolster easily. Getting out is almost the reverse. I put right hand on top of wheel for balance and left arm on rocker. I push up on left arm which raises me out of seat. I then put left foot on ground and just pull right leg out with little trouble. Left leg and left arm do most of the work. Bolster never touched. If you are in England driving on the right side then just reverse my hand positions. LOL Best Randy
Hi Randy, Thanks for the info! I have the electric seats and Telescopic/Tilt wheel. I'm rather tall and not very flexible, I do use the left had for support on the door sill and have my seats all the way back. I try not to rub the seats but it happens. Tim
Damn! Oh well. I tried. Airplanes and sports cars are the only time my lack of height has an advantage!
I do something similar to Randy, but place my left palm on the seat bolster. So at the very most, I only brush against my own hand. I always get comments remarking on my lack of bolster wear.
Whenever I get out of car I put seat I do the same and have the golddrake seats, almost find it easier than electric since it's much quicker to adjust manual seats
Definitely quicker but speed for me isn't an issue being a 488 GTB I always let the engine idle 3 minutes before turning off
Can you post a video of the process you use to get in and out. Would like to see how this is done by pros.
I have always allowed the engine to idle on turbo engines for 3 minutes before turning off. Turbos a bloody hot so allowing oil to circulate is better than turning them off immediately
I love this thread! I seriously would never admit to worrying and or thinking about all of these thoughts.. I am truly relieved to see that I am not as simgularly neurotic as I had assumed.
You are well beyond about thinking about these thinks because you have driven your car to the max . But I wouldn't be surprised your bolsters look bad , really bad. Ive had cars where I looked after them like a baby . Once I had a have a few scratches , stone chips etc I reach a point that I just don't give a rats arse . But they aren't Ferrari's
no I think I didn’t make my point clear. I’ve thought about all these things but wouldn’t care to admit them to others. I was afraid people would think I was a little crazy (Perhaps I am when it comes to cars and some other things too)
Poltrona Frau makes the best wrapper in the business.(You will find the PF label inside the door panel on the passengers side). the leather is fully abalone meaning it has a special highly durable coating to protect it against chemicals water spots and fading from the sunlight. If the surface gets worn off, there are repair options which avoid replacement. Ask your service center for an experienced leather man who can ‘ re-paint’ the worn areas. I ve done this before—later bought the color liquids and done it myself with a small paintbrush.
