Sounds to me like you are sold on the look (hard to argue that - it looks great) but the rest is not there so you are now holding a candle out for the dealer provide a miracle band-aid solution to get you over the line whilst being able to maintain a warrantable situation. Good luck. My advice is if you have found the car isn't lighting a fire in your heart and soul then walk away - pursue the 458 speciale which whilst being of similar $ will hold that value and return the smiles for many years to come. OTOH with the other all I foresee is heartache along with misery once it inevitably drops a ton of value....and then you look back and say to yourself "if only".

actually f8 front looks like a performante. For anyone who wants the look of F8 and NA engine and is shorter than 6 feet tall, I say performante is a great toy.

You should stick with 458 or go for 812 if you want new generation ferrari with epic sound. F8 will never sound as good as 458 everyone agrees with this. For someone like me that really loves the Ferrari Mid-engine cars with very LIMITED BUDGET. I have to choose between keeping my epic sound 458 forever with no chance to own any new Ferrari Mid-engine cars that will come in the future, which is better in many aspect but not sound because they are V8Turbos and V6Hybrid, or just move on and enjoy new experience from Ferrari. Poor guy tragedy.

This is a reply to Mandalay's comments #35 in which he asked
    Hi Mandalay
I just read your comment yesterday from a few days ago in which you suggested that money was a determining factor in why I prefer my 458 Spider to the F8.

You effectively said that no matter what my response, I won't convince you. It's a pity to be so closed-minded. I don't want to get into an argument with another Ferrari lover, but I was most surprised by your comment. You don't have any idea of my financial means or circumstances. I suspect that because my own car is not a limited production model, you have proceeded on the basis that I can't afford another $350K or $720K (or whatever). Two big baseless assumptions. (Bear in mind that Ferrari won't normally sell one of their limited production cars to a first-time Ferrari purchaser - which I am sure that you know.)

In fact the very absence of any reference by me to the cost should have been a give-away. Yes, as I said in my post, I do like the F8 very much, and whilst I am sufficiently interested to have already discussed pricing and more importantly availability with my dealer (twice), the price difference is irrelevant.

In part answer to your assumptions about finances, I would not trade in my 458, but buy an F8 as my second Ferrari. But only if I like it enough. The simple fact is that I don't. Perhaps if the factory tinkers appropriately with the exhaust system and in the spider form, but presently it doesn't give me as much excitement as my 458, let alone more.

A "straight exchange"? No way! Simply because I get more enjoyment from my 458. Why go backwards in my daily driving pleasure?!

I didn't buy any of the 488 models because, again, they simply didn't excite me enough in the driving experience. Faster? Yes. Handle better? Yes. But not enough to tempt me. I drove 488s around Fiorano and Varano for 2 days each and the 812 around Varano for 2 days. I simply was not sufficiently attracted to either car. Money was not a relevant consideration.

Enjoyment and driving satisfaction are the only two criteria for my decision making on when (or indeed if) I buy my next F-car.

488 Pista didnt do it for you over a 458? As much I love the 458 it is nowhere near as good as a 488 or Pista. You get a but more sound and that's it. Then again you get that with a Corvette or Mustang GT.

Not cars that are in abundance. Dealers dont want to buy them unless its a steal. They will take them on consignment though.

That was a great comprehensive explanation and exactly how I felt after my test drive in the F8 Tributo. It's a beautiful beast and does every thing well. If I didn't own a 458 I would be all over it. Then, like you, I drove my 458 home from the dealership and immediately forgot about the F8 ;)

You guys are so lucky loving the 458 so much. No need to ever buy another car again since nothing in the future will ever capture that emotion. No more big money expenditures on a super car.

so true. Just like I’ve kept my 8 track. I don’t like the newer digital systems. They don’t have that proper sound. Saved me a ton.:p:p:p

I wish it were that simple ... epic older cars cost as much or more as epic modern cars.

It's almost as if there's a reason for that.

I don’t have to subscribe to the keepin up with Jones’ Ferrari game anymore.
I’ll be collecting backwards but problem is that can get even more expensive !

I remember the Porsche owners who could not accept the move from air to water cooled cars. They vowed never to buy another Porsche since the emotion created by the pre 996 models would never be experienced. Now they rave about the performance of the GT derivatives and the 911R is sacrosanct.

To test drive the F8 at the dealer with a salesman accompanying you and being restricted to city streets
and possibly a highway will not even give you a glimpse of how capable, fast and thrilling the car can be. While I was impressed with the F8 on my initial test drive in Miami, the salesman was sitting beside me which inhibited my driving style. On my subsequent drive, I had the car solo and gave it a serious run. Highway, industrial area, winding isolated roads in race mode with ESC and CT disabled. That is when I fell in love with the F8. Its capabilities are so stellar that will only truly become evident when pushed.

I remember seeing the same after I bought my 997. I just chuckled when I saw them ranting realizing it was probably insecurity seeing their beloved car superseded by the next generation.

I love my 458, but I’m looking for something new. I did not like the 488 for F8 cars. I have a 720s which is such a fun and fast car and a GT2 RS which is probably the most engaging car I’ve driven. I want another Ferrari, the only one that excites me right now is a Speciale. The Pista seems somewhat out of place or redundant with having the 720S and GT2 RS so I don’t see the point in buying one of those. The 458 is a great car, but after 6 years I just want something different. I’ll probably end up realizing I should have kept it after it goes and buy another 458... To OP...certainly understand your dilemma.

Not reselling cars through your dealer and then wondering why you cannot get limited edition cars?

This reminds me of Warren Buffet saying how happy he was that colleges keep training students the investment theory that the market is omniscient.

Frank Sinatra sang about this in the songs, “Luck be a Lady” and ‘The Lady is a Tramp’

“ A lady doesn’t leave her escort and blow on some other guys dice.”

    “Doesn’t like dice games
She won’t dish the dirt with the rest of those other broads
That’s why the lady is a tramp “
