The new owner will pay a substantial premium, trailer it home and just look at it to keep the miles down until they sell it for about what they paid.

    Fun car...

You would really have to hate the car that much to never drive it for that many years.
It’s like you look at the car and say, today, I won’t drive you.
Garage art that has been rendered useless over time
Why marry a super model and Vow never touch her? me, I’m going to drive. Not saving her for the next guy

#80501, very close to my own Black (but Black Metallic) #80515, produced February 24th, 1989; that car should have been built a day or two before mine.
Note that it has the "dark burgundy" leather pouch fr the manuals, typical of most '89s.
Spark plug tool missing from the tool roll...Just saying...

Usually the worst market place for a 328! There was one with 18,000 miles, think it was bid to $60,000 and the guy wanted $90. These are such great driving cars!

No thanks. I will keep my 88 with 33K on it and continue to drive it whenever I can.

The buyer could have bought 3 nice ones that he could actually use for that money.

These cars are great to look at but they are a helluva lot more fun to drive.

This one will get pushed on and off trailers now until the sun supernovas.

I guess a good plus is you never need to worry about belt services on that thing.

    Very, VERY well sold.

We had one in the shop a while back that had less than 1K miles on it.
It looked like new, smelled like new inside, and drove absolutely horribly from never getting exercised.
Conversely, I have been surprised many times by a car that looks like an absolute roach but, once you take it out on the road, it drives amazingly well.

I completely agree with all said above.

That poor car has been begging to be driven for over 3 decades, and it appears that no one is listening.

    Thank you

The second place bidder can call me if he wants an '89 black/black GTS for only $200k.

Well, you know I'm kinda fan of "Time Capsules": here is another one, the last addition to the list; #77722, a poor Left Hand Drive "euro" '88 GTS sold new in Italy with 1.300 miles on the odometer since new and stored in the U.K; it will be auctionned at the beginning of August, let's see how much it will fetch...

I have no issues with the car being preserved as a time capsule. I work hard to keep mine that way as well. I love seeing a perfectly maintained and persevered car. People should enjoy their cars as they wish. If you have a driver with a ton of miles on it, enjoy. If you choose to enjoy your car in other ways, great. I drive my cars, but I also enjoy keeping their miles to a minimum and maintaining them In perfect, as new condition. Showing cars at top concours is where I gain most of my pleasure in ownership.

As for the price, I say, finally. The finest examples of these cars should command prices like that, if not more. Like it or not, that car is at the top of the heap for a GTS. Obviously, given that I own a GTB, I’m always happy to see the 328 market rise. I hope this sets a standard for other premium examples in the future.

It was great meeting you at the 2018 The Quail Motorsports Gathering. Your car is truly spectacular. I totally "get" where you're coming from. Not everyone who maintains/restores cars to pristine condition shows them though and I find that kind of sad. Some are just tucked away in warehouses gathering dust.

It continues to be a mystery to me why 3x8s trade so inexpensively. Even driven cars should be a quarter million dollars. By most manufacturers standards they are extremely rare cars (13,000 + 7,000). Porsches and Jaguars with comparable production numbers command higher prices. I think there are two factors at play; 1. they are not the Ferraris where only a dozen were made and have no racing history so the upper tier collectors ignore them and 2. there is a whole general mythology surrounding Ferraris that gets in their way; maintenance heavy (pfff: not true), temperamental (ditto) and too precious to drive (umm, you're guilty as charged :p ).

So how much would insurance be on my 308 if the value suddenly went overnight from $70k to $250k?

(Not really seeking the answer. Just pointing out a downside.)
