I do not have a "Ferrari complex" as you name it (I had owned some Ferraris, V8 and V12 and recently drove a Pista and was stunned! What a great car!). But in the not so far past Maserati was NEVER permitted to produce a car -not even the MC12, which was basically a better designed car than the Enzo- that was allowed to "scratch" the Ferrari skin...
Also from the markeing aspect the MC12 was always positioned below the MC12...

When Ferrari designed their own engines, the cars were made for about 5,000-10,000 km max. per year with about 12,000 units. When they had to develop for Masserati, it was soon much obvious that Maserati owners used their cars for a bigger milage per year. Furthermore they had to produce much more engines for Maserati then for themselves. To match the warranty, Ferrari had to produce/design more reliable engines. Of course this needed time and the 4200GT/S and QPs may had also their issues - but from the Granturismo on their engines became very reliable. I know of two customers who both had Granturismo 4.7. The first sold his car with 110,000 km and bought another and the second still drives his car with 150,000 km...both guys never had any engine issues with their cars.

Of course Maserati needs a "mother" to survive - but they should produce their cars independently from Ferrari.

I like this. If they can keep it smallish, like same height as the 4c or lower but slightly longer this car will be a stunner. And at 160k makes it much more appealing especially after depreciation hits!

This and the Alpine A110 are the only cars that have me excited lately.

So the Biturbo lives yet again! ;)

    90 degree V6
    twin turbo
an engine designed in house and manufactured in house.

That's where the similarities end though ...

It looks like they expect the ICI to be a viable product for some time. That my be the uncertain part given the looming enormous change we may see in the USA this fall. If that happens it won't be a change friendly to engines such as this.
Can Maserati do well enough with this engine WO the US market?
I wish this was what they were doing 5-10 years ago.

    Anyone concerned about the complexity?

Bob in terms of marketing the Biturbo is the last thing you want to talk about now as Maserati has made a huge effort to come back to the forefront, what are you going to do next bring de Tomaso's ghost to the September launch;-)?

That's maybe why they don't insist on the biturbo aspect that much.
They prefer instead to label the car as the MC20 and the engine as Nettuno!

    Mercedes Biturbo ??? ;)

    Snobs ;)

They ran out of wind a while ago already and quite foolishly lost the Bora name.
To be fair it was Detomaso himself who started up with the BMW like numeric names like 228. Eh I guess it was a sign the times as he also used Shamal and Chubasco. Ghibli got abused several times now ...

It's a crime they let that one slip but it's also possible that given their current plans that it might not have fit their mechanical plans at this time.
They are "supposed" to be developing all electric versions and hybrid as well I think for their future models.
Who in the hell wants an electric Maserati?

I have no idea if they have plans for this engine to become part of a hybrid vehicle? That would a lot of power , more complexity and weight. It seems like there's already enough power.
They hint at Formula One. They have enough money for that and the sudden changes in Formula? Where's that coming from?

They let go the Alfieri that was robbed by F, but on the other hand they may have marked a point and anticipated the future of hypercars or powerful SUV's/sedans that will be powered by a strong/small V6 powerplant supplemented by hybrid technology.
The V8 of the Tributo will have too much power/weight when associated to hybrid technology and in the next future, F will certainly design a twinturbo V6 powerplant associated to hybrid technology for their next berlinettas, as that is the shining combo for F1 cars.
So mayve a clever move from the Trident here...

Yuck!! Can't wait until they start a GT racing series for all electric. Maybe they can have a Segway support race get you all ready for the coming excitement.
