What's the secondary market for Tesla like, and do you think that will influence stock price in the future? I will tell you that it's hard for me to wrap my head around a $75,000 "outdoor TV." I'm sure that is probably an ignorant view of the cars though.

Yes, apologies - the reason I originally moved it was the discussion seem to me to veer to the investment angle (nothing with wrong with that) - that said, totally forgot investment was a subscribed forum.

If you're interested in investing in alternative energies, I recommend looking at a stock called Power Plug. To me hydrogen is the future rather than e-vehicles.

1200 a share today... where does it stop? It’s crazy. I sold the few I had bought at 400 at 900 thinking this was already crazy but this is something else!

Enjoying a nice glass of wine tonight as TSLA reaches $1,200. It's just the start of a massive increase in shareholder value that will continue from here. So the crickets from the haters is proof that they have crawled under a rock. I just wish at least one of them would have the balls to either apologize that they were wrong or try to swim upstream and continue their point of view.

I’m thankful for Tesla being in the world. Pista funding secured.

I admit this is unsubstantiated, but one theory I have is Mercedes is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to electric tech. The reason? this is again speculation on my part, but I believe Mercedes' past partnership with Tesla may have helped? I remember seeing a number of times Mercedes in test garages at Tesla when I've visited personally.

    Just my own conspiracy theory.

Please, not another "Elon Musk is god" post. Musk is a charlatan.

I make no statement of the metaphysical.
I get it if one hates Tesla because of government subsidies it received (although almost every carmaker got some form of support during 09' crisis) - I sympathize with this viewpoint; truly, I'm not a fan of a socialistic enterprise. (and it's P&R to boot!)

With that preamble out of the way, to call Musk, a Charleton would also necessitate the need to invite the same sentiment to others, such as Edison, Gates, and Jobs.

    Consider the following unquestionable facts.
    • At 25, Musk sold his first company to Compaq computer for 300 million.
    • Musk co-founded Paypal, which is nothing short of complete success.
    • His company SpaceX sent 2 astronauts right now orbiting the earth on the ISS.
    • The Boring Company just completed the tunnel Las Vegas; more casinos are lining up for more contracts.
    • Tesla has delivered over 1 million cars worldwide and has ushered in a new paradigm that other carmakers are following, even Ferrari said they would eventually make an 'all-electric car.'
If these things are the fruits of a "Charleton," well, I could only hope folks call me a similar name of chicanery.

Charlatan implies trickery, falsehood, or deceit.

There are now over 1 million Teslas on the road, I used Paypal yesterday, I watched two astronauts board the ISS last month, I have an HP/Compaq computer, and I won't have to take a Taxi anymore from the LVCC to my hotel.

Are these things figments on my imagination? Clever sleight of hand with mirrors and smoke?

I by no means feel he is God's son, but I'm starting to understand now why folks defend him. It would be like if somebody said the earth is flat, the rebuttals could often be quite passionate.
He's been successful for 25 years now, though you're right, maybe all his business will fail in the next 25.
He was, in fact I didn't like him when I met him. That said is he a 'charlatan' as well?

Well, I have no opinion about Musk, to be honest, I´m not interested in the "character". I think that some of his works are very interesting.

But, and it´s a big but, Tesla has failed to make any profit in all the years of its existence. The same for the rocket thing. So far he´s living on the money that the investors pump every year; some may say that it´s a new tech that needs time, some may say that it´s starting to look like a pyramidal scheme. I don´t agree with that, and I don´t think that he´s a charlatan, but I understand why some say he is.

Well, end of off-topic, Tesla has no F1 team.

Companies that take a while to make a profit is not new at all.
The two most valuable companies in the world took over a decade to make it.

Apple = 20 years (Bill gates had to bail out Jobs and Apple in the 90s famously personally) - Apple is now closing on 2 Trillion in value (that's with a "T" my friend)
    Amazon = 14 years (worth 1.5 Trillion)

Paypal, Compaq (later acquired by HP) - are both quite profitable.

Even if Tesla and Space X failed, Musk more then has proven himself with Paypal and Zip2.

Tesla did what many people said was impossible - make electric cars a doable proposition, even if it were to go out of business tomorrow - that won't stop Ferrari from making an all-electric car like Car and Driver reports or Mercedes' announcement to pivot to all-electric by 2022. (to keep this conversation related to F1.) Who is behind this revolution? History will be unambiguous, it was a man called Musk.

ICE is done by my friends, whether we like it or not. I love ICE myself, but just because I like listening to vinyl, sport a Patak, enjoy live theater/cinema, doesn't mean I don't acknowledge digital music, digital watches, and video streaming won.

Agree with the rest but I disagree with this.

First of all, there were electric cars way before Tesla, of course. They didn´t make money... but neither Tesla.

How much influence Tesla has on the other manufacturers to lure them into electric cars? That´s difficult to know.

Why "traditional" car makers didn´t get into the electric vehicle before? Because they want to make money with petrol cars while they watch Tesla loose money every year. When petrol cars become less profitable than electric ones they´ll stop selling them, but not yet.

    Regarding the ''complete facts'':

He didn't cofound Paypal. In fact he got removed from the company before it became what Paypal is today. He sat on the board though.
SpaceX...private airspace. Yes he put money in and the spacecraft look nice and modern. But didn't exactly re-invent the wheel with it did he.
Oh come on. Boring company? Boring company digs tunnels....what's special about that? They are incredible late with every single thing they've promised.
1 million cars...YEARS after he promised to make them, most of them are terrible quality. Somehow managed to get a cult following. A company build on absolute horsehit spewing from his mouth, and certain amount of luck involved that the big companies have largely left EV tech alone. Ferrari isn't making an EV to compete with Tesla...but becauuse they have to. Governments worldwide are moving to oust the ICE car. So Ferrari either goes out of the car making business or join the electrical appliance on wheels business.

Elon Musk thinks he's smarter than he is, enabled by his massive cult following.

Golden egg of Tesla is level 5 autonomy. If they really are the first to crack it then the company will be very valuable and their cars will become just another pay as you go taxi service

Anyway, back to Ferrari, really hope that contrary to statements Andy Cowell joins Maranello next year
