So I am peeling back the front end of SN32001 to expose the inwards/frame(rust?) and diagnose what needs to be repaired or replaced. I get curious by the battery (-) cable and follow it to this quick disconnect/copper braid part.

I have never seen this on Fchat. This looks like an inadequate "ground" from the battery to the frame. The braid looks fragile and not the best for conductivity/grounding. WTH - I want to run a 2 or 4 gauge cable to the frame. Am I wrong? I see the stories of the senior 308 having grounding issues.

Actually a braided cable like that for the ground has far more conductive area than a 2 or 4 gauge cable. It is also more flexible and less likely to pull loose from a connector.

All the grounding issues I've ever run across were due to conventional cable and connections, never the braids.

I unbolted it from the frame.

Lots of club in the contact area.

Cleaned it up and bolted it back in.

    Did it help?

    Probably, but ... who knows.

    Sure Didn't HURT.
