Hi guys, I've owned and driven Ferraris since 1996. My first Ferrari was a MT red 355 spider. Still one of the best looking and best driving Ferraris ever. After that I changed to a 360 spider and then a 430 spider. I also bought a MT Ferrari 550M along the way and enjoyed driving it for almost 7 years. Still have some regret selling it as I miss the snick snick of that gated gear shift, but I did get a 599 GTB with paddle shifts as a replacement. Performance wise it was light years ahead of the 550 but lost out to the 550 in character.
So now I have a F430 spider and a 599GTB, both in excellent shape and running condition. Resale prices in Malaysia are the pits...the 2005 MT 430 spider goes for about USD 80K and the 2007 599 GTB goes for about USD 120K. Surprisingly the 458 prices are still high and an excellent condition 2012 458 spider goes for about USD 300K. Sooooo I have a chance to get a 458 spider but my wife says no more spending money on sports cars. It's an itch that's bothering me. The question is should I trade in the 430 and 599 and cough up the difference in cash and get a 2012 458 spider? OR keep my two cars and just continue enjoying driving them. Would I miss out on owning and driving the 458 spider?

    Tough call.

If your 430 Spider was an F1 it would be a no brainer if you did in fact want the 458. It's a logical step. The trans changes things completely.

Personally I wouldn't trade a gated 430 for any newer Ferrari unless it was joining the herd.

Its a F1 paddle shift but I would also have to give up on the 599 as well. So loose the F430 spider paddle shift AND 599 GTB and get a 458 spider OR keep both cars and forget about the 458 spider.

I understand the question, but I think you are looking in the wrong place for the answer.
Meaning, you are asking us to put an entertainment/financial value on your 430/599 AND simultaneously put one on the 458. Plus you are asking us to imagine how strong your itch is for a new experience.
The reality is we really can't answer this for you. Each of us has our biases.
You must get behind the wheel of a 458. Only then can you decide if it gives you things the others don't. Or, said another way, does it give you things that you might enjoy more than the things it does not/cannot?
Best, regardless of your agonizing decision!

This comes without the other thing that seems to motivate people to buy a car emotion. The 599 is a nice car but the after driving modern DCT's it is not fun to drive. It is an inferior transmission. I owned a gated 430 (and a 360), and unlike almost everyone, I'd rather drive a Miata, S2000 and many other three pedal cars. The gated shifter sounds good but it was not as good a manual as many other cars. The 458 is a big step up in just about every way that is not subjective To me the decision would be easy the 458 is the best machine, and that is all they are machines.

Keep the 430, sell the 599 and buy a 550?

That's it in a nutshell.Randall. You guys are right. I'll never know until I drive a 458 spider. Driven a 458 coupe but it didn't grab me. I guess I'll drive a spider and see what that's like.

About as much fun a man can ever get with his clothes on. That’s how I see the Italia and the Spider. Love that video!

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.
