I hope the link works: here is a great extended video about Le Mans 1970, plenty of Coda Lunga coverage and action:)

It is by INA (institut national Audiovisuel) quite good commentary in French, no subtitles.

If there is one race I could magically get to see first hand it is this one, more for what a fantastic line up than for the result of course but still...enjoy it:)!

And to the victors, a ride in a dump truck. Not exactly a Roman triumph;) Terrific Marc, thank you.

Le Mans 1970, twilight, Jacky Ickx in 5 he shared with Peter Schetty, the lead Ferrari ahead of the "Psychedelic" 917 of Willi Khausen and my remote (I speak with him once a year at Retromobile) uncle in law Gerard Larrousse.

5 had a genuine chance at winning, was definitely the most competitive of the 11 512S entered but Ickx would crash around 1h35 am while braking for the Ford chicane in the wet, he was THE master of rain driving then so there may have been something wrong with the brakes but no one will ever know. A sleeping marshall was killed in the crash and as I mentioned before Ickx, a true Gentleman, offered to pay for the schooling of the family children but the very proud widow refused...

3 went on the finish second, after being "encouraged" not to try to compete with Hermann Attwood, the eventual winners, as Hans Herrmann was about to retire. Photo by star photographer of that era Rainer S.
