There was a big car show here in early March and my neighbor was oo-ing and ah-ing over a supposed vintage Ferrari. I didn’t attend the show, but I did catch this photo from an advertisement. This doesn’t look legit to me.

    I think it's supposed to be a 50's 275 S? Agreed with @Ferrarium seems like a Fauxrari.

    I guess not.
For many reasons in my opinion:

    * Paint job (specialy with light) doesn't even seem (era related).
    * @Ferrarium 's comparison makes lot of sence.
    * red insert connected to exhauste doesn't seem right.
*SMTH in general seems odd to me I guess:)
Seems like a kit car I would guess. But still can't be %100 sure unless I examine the car my self with an expert:D

The Rush license plate leads me to believe it is a replica 166 or 212 barchetta. (There’s a Rush song red barchetta) Taillights are wrong also IIRC.

It is an annual fundraiser car show here that is indoors and spans 3 days. Hundreds of cars, mostly street rods, trans ams, corvettes, mustangs, chevelles, etc. Most are drivers, a lot of cool cars though! Most people around here have never seen an actual Ferrari. I took my 360 for an inspection and one of the techs says “now is this a kit car??” :D

And everyone here assumes than any Ferrari is a $250K and up car. One Ferrari is just the same as another.

My life philosophy is "live and let live" as long as what you do does not harm others.
With this in mind, I generally have esteem for the enthusiast that recreates a Ferrari for its nostalgia and personal gratification.

However, this esteem ends when the owner tries to represent the vehicle as something it is not.
I've met owners that have a 'replica' XXX and many times done very well. I respect it when the owners are forthright and honest about what they have.

I've also met owners that have said replicas that try to commit intellectual fraud, those folks - I do not have much respect.
I don't know where this person lies, but I wouldn't be proud to 'show and tell' this particular example unless there is some very conspicuous way to convey its provenance (or lack thereof I should say.)

Build and drive for personal satisfaction? Definitely gets my kudos!

Look at my 'expensive' vintage real "Ferrari?" - hmm....

Yes agreed I don't care either way, but if it was the real deal, I'd like to track it down and have a look! I have a soft spot for vintage Ferraris - my dad bought a 1963 250 GTE 2+2 when I was in 8th grade for $6,000. The engine and interior were beautiful, borrani (sp?) wheels, but it was rusty and he was restoring it. Well my folks divorced and my mom won the car in the divorce, then proceeded to sell it for $3,000 on blocks. Never saw the car again!

This guy seems to fall into the build and drive for personal satisfaction. Not a fan of replicas, but I respect the building process.

Most folks I know that have replicas do so with very tasteful execution. I number of Cobras come to mind. I would argue in some vintage instances; the reproduction might be even more objectively better than the original in build quality!

But these are the folks I refer to; I think people here know the cohort I disdain:
